This place on the corner of Marine drive and Haig road...the food is so good that we had to cancel all our other plans and devour the menu.

Make sure you ask the waiter to super heat the grill seafood platter so it’s extra hot when it arrives. There is a great strong breeze which can cool off the food pretty fast.

The view is amazing. Even though the ocean is not super aqua shaded green, it’s a great spot to have lunch. Friendly staff and relatively quick service for it being a seafood place. Music was nice and decor was quirky.

Definitely on my “next time” list. When in Colombo, a must visit for lunch. Crabs and curry like no other I have yet tried in Sri Lanka.

On August 9th, 2019, I placed a takeout order at The Fat Crab in the morning for 6.30PM pickup and paid almost Rs. 30K with delivery fees for two giant Crabs (1KG+). The order was not ready till 7.30PM and received, only a partial order and some claws were missing from the crabs. Once contacted the manager, he was very apologetic and promised that he would make things right. Three days later, I am yet to receive even a single call or even a text message.
The Black Pepper Carb tasted like dipped in a ready-made Chinese brown sauce. The Over Cooked Sri Lankan Murunga leaf Curry crabs were dry, and meat has turned into fibers.
I would not recommend The Fat Carb and its poor customer service.

I have been a guest at The Fat Crab at various instances in the past, and recommended the place too to many a Friend. Primarily of course due to live mud crab, which is, when prepared traditionally in black pepper curry, with coconut sambol and all, probably srilanka'd most famous gatronomic treat, and rightly so. We think the crab was excellent, and super fresh (alive) and tasty, as on the previous occasions. The problem was the seafood chowder. The waiter lured us into it, and it came fast.
Obviously it was precooked.
I will not speculate any further....
Anyway, the outcome was, that both my friend and me were womiting all night (him on a flight, me at home), and went on with fever, and subsequent terrible head and muscle pain the following 2 days, which accounts for the serious food poisoning. It is the only meal we had together, and we had exactly the same simptoms, so it is impossible to be anything else then that. 3 days later we are still alive, and kicking.
Never again.

Quality of food is good, Price is average not cheep. Service is good & staff is friendly. We can recommend to our friends

By far best food i ate in Colombo, also surprisingly affordable; if you ever visit Colombo, you definitely have to pass by Fat Crab.
