We went for a one-week stay to Tashkent for business purposes. It was for both of us the first trip to Usbekistan, however I am experienced in the Middle East. Therefore, I will probably miss a few things that bother regular tourists just because I am used to it.
This hotel was booked (and finally paid) by our local partner so we had no choice.
The hotel is really close to the airport which is good for arriving and leaving Tashkent, but you will need a taxi to go whereever you want. Taxi (official or private) is no problem at all.
The building might be quite new but it is aging fast. Rooms are spacy and clean however the bathroom will need some refurbishment very soon. We did not have warm water for the first day and this was annoying. Last day we had a longer power cut which affected only the hotel not the neighbouring building.
Air condition was working fine which is a must when you have more than 40 degrees outside.
Staff was interesting: basically very friendly but they have their limits when it comes to conflicts between regulations and guest wishes.
Example: when checking out, you can only pay the room with a credit card, the rest should be in cash. No problem, said I, but they charged me with breakfast as well which I did not have.
They asked me in a quite harsh way why I did not tell if before that I don´t need breakfast. They said they can not remove it from the bill and for this reason (remember, only accomodation can be paid with cards) I should pay it cash. It is not about the amount, it is about basic flexibility.
Anyhow, my colleague said that breakfast was awful so I did not miss anything.
Staff also liked to play games in the bar. The same coffee cost 4000 som one day, 8000 the next, 6000 two days later and so on. I gave them 6000 and no more. (Yet it is incredibly high, but ok, let them have their hotel prices for western tourists.)
Despite of these discussions they were ok.
I had a room to the back which turned out to be quiet. Be careful, beds are incredibly hard. Not everyone will tolerate it.
Price was fair, but my next visit will find me in another hotel in town, at least one category higher.
