“A mixture of old and modern times”
Reviewed 15 July 2014

We went for a one-week stay to Tashkent for business purposes. It was for both of us the first trip to Usbekistan, however I am experienced in the Middle East. Therefore, I will probably miss a few things that bother regular tourists just because I am used to it.
This hotel was booked (and finally paid) by our local partner so we had no choice.

The hotel is really close to the airport which is good for arriving and leaving Tashkent, but you will need a taxi to go whereever you want. Taxi (official or private) is no problem at all.
The building might be quite new but it is aging fast. Rooms are spacy and clean however the bathroom will need some refurbishment very soon. We did not have warm water for the first day and this was annoying. Last day we had a longer power cut which affected only the hotel not the neighbouring building.
Air condition was working fine which is a must when you have more than 40 degrees outside.
Staff was interesting: basically very friendly but they have their limits when it comes to conflicts between regulations and guest wishes.
Example: when checking out, you can only pay the room with a credit card, the rest should be in cash. No problem, said I, but they charged me with breakfast as well which I did not have.
They asked me in a quite harsh way why I did not tell if before that I don´t need breakfast. They said they can not remove it from the bill and for this reason (remember, only accomodation can be paid with cards) I should pay it cash. It is not about the amount, it is about basic flexibility.
Anyhow, my colleague said that breakfast was awful so I did not miss anything.
Staff also liked to play games in the bar. The same coffee cost 4000 som one day, 8000 the next, 6000 two days later and so on. I gave them 6000 and no more. (Yet it is incredibly high, but ok, let them have their hotel prices for western tourists.)
Despite of these discussions they were ok.
I had a room to the back which turned out to be quiet. Be careful, beds are incredibly hard. Not everyone will tolerate it.
Price was fair, but my next visit will find me in another hotel in town, at least one category higher.

Room Tip: Try to have a room on the back side. The front looks on a broad and busy road.

We stayed in this hotel for 2 nights. It is close to the airport.
The rooms are big and clean. The breakfast is a buffet and offers enough variety.
It is not in walking-distance to the center and tourist attractions.

Very cheap, something like 35usd, xlrg bed single. very Good compared to price.
but watch out when taking a shower, if someone on your floor flushes his toilet, you might get burned by hot water :)

Thanks to staff for friendliness!

The usual Hotel Asia chain formula. - clean and reasonably well appointed and maintained. This hotel also has a good indoor swimming pool and provides fittness facilities.
However it is 5km from Tashkent centre and with no direct public transport links to the centre (2 busses required) taxi is the only option. Not ideal if you only have limited time in town. Also the beds were uncomfortably firm. Breakfast OK but milk was not avaiable the day we stayed there.

Room Tip: Rooms at the back are quieter.

On our tour of Uzbekistan we stayed at three hotels in this chain and the other two - at Samarkand and Khiva were very good indeed. The Tashkent one was very disappointing - the hotel is situated beyond walking distance of all the important sites and is rather isolated from other restaurants and cafes. The breakfast was very poor indeed - milk ran out before 815am and the only bread on display was hard and inedible. Bar prices were higher than in any of the other hotels we stayed at in Uzbekistan (incuding the 4 star Hotel Uzbekistan). The beds were really hard - ours had springs pushing into our backs. All-in-all one to be avoided.

Room Tip: Stay elsewhere

This hotel was booked for us and we weren't sure what to expect. My new rule is take the comments on trip advisor with a pinch of salt, because if someone is moaning about stale bread then they are struggling to find something concrete to moan about.

Actually, the hotel is large, pleasant, clean, with friendly staff. Food is reasonable - you dont get large grand buffet style breakfasts in this part of the world - and relatively cheap.

The rooms are well appointed for the class of hotel, and my only criticism is the strange mattresses on the two single beds, which are very deep sprung mattresses, but the springs sort of fold over flat when you climb on. Dont sit on the edge, it just flops you on to the floor. Having said that, got a good night's sleep, and my colleagues arent having this issue.

Have stayed in some dumps in my time and this ISN'T one of them. pleasantly surprised and quite happy to recommend it; very close to the airport but not sure how close it is to the rest of the city - we are here on business and not getting out much!

Room Tip: Doesnt matter - but do lock your door when in the room, the housekeeping have the annoying habit of...

The rooms are pretty comfortable, the staff is extremely helpful and friendly & the breakfast was wonderful.

In order to get free wireless, you have to go to the bar area which is extremely comfortable with big overstuffed chairs and couches. It was a very nice environment to get in touch with the world or do some work.
