It was a magnificent experience to touch to the brainchild of famous Mark Weil who was tragically murdered in 2007. We attended Ilkhom Theatre on March 27 - in WORLD THEATER DAY which was really symbolic. The performance "Tortilla flat" was based on the novel of John Steinbeck, It was on of the oldest performances of Ilkhom and next year it is going to celebrate the 20-th anniversary. Together with my friend from Germany Norbert we were sitting at the first row and had an opportunity to enjoy the art completely. The actors were playing imressively. Especially Olga Volodina performing the part of Mrs. Morales. Incredible! Everyone was singing, dancing and making us believe in all this running at the stage. Live music. Live performance! Talented young actors! Great dramaturgic concept! It is really worth to be seen and to be felt! The interior of the theater is alos extremely authentic. There are some exhibitions taking part in the hall. And the stage decorations are very special. It is the best modern theater I've ever been in.
Do not miss ILKHOM when being in Tashkent.

The Ilkhom is one of Tashkent's highlights. There are always great performances -- many of which have English subtitles. Even if you can't understand the performance, the Ilkhom's worth a visit for a look at the very cool space, the art display that's always changing, and the history of the theater and people watching!

It is a fresh breath of air in Tashkent... Always modern, always provoking, always great play, always full, but not for everyone.

I've seen two pieces here and loved them both. The production quality is really high for Tashkent, and the do really creative, original stuff. Three or four times a month they do a show with supertitles in English, but if you like theater, you might enjoy their shows even if you can't understand Russian. This is worthy theater.
