“Great place to stay in Istanbul”
Reviewed 1 October 2012

We just spent four days in Istanbul. It was our first trip to the city and we could not have picked a better place to stay.

1. Location - this is unbeatable. Beyoglü in my view is the most charming quarter of the city, the old town with the markets and the sights has its appeal but what we really liked was just walking the little streets with the small cafes, hidden garden restaurants, antique shops etc. which did not feel that touristy. Great location also for the hip restaurants for dinner, everything is within walking distance Regarding the sights, you can walk (ca. 30 mins. including the charming walk across the Galata bridge), otherwise it is a short taxi or tram ride (direct line taking you to Aya Sofia/Topkapi). The tram station is close to the hotel.

2. Rooms - very spacious and well appointed. If you spend more than just one night it is really nice to have a seating area. The room has a little kitchenette with a Nespresso machine, water kettle and a microwave but with so many great eating options on our doorstep, we did not bother really using this. However it adds to the space and the coffee machine was a nice touch.

3. Staff - they were really helpful and accommodating. For instance on the last day or flight back was only in the late afternoon and as the hotel was not fully booked for the following night, they gave us a late check out until 4 pm.

My husband and I recently stayed at the Witt Istanbul for four nights. First impressions of this hotel couldn't have been better. Arrived at the hotel after a horrendous 2 hour taxi ride from the airport (Istanbul traffic - don't start me!) feeling tired, irritable and stressed as we thought we were going to miss our dinner reservation because of the traffic delays (we'd called restaurant to see if we could push our reservation back and they'd said no.) We were met at the hotel by Ali, he could probably tell we were a bit stressed so we told him about the restaurant situation - he promptly picked up the phone, called the restaurant and within 2 minutes had pushed our dinner back by an hour. Impressed! He then sat us down in the bar and poured us a glass of wine while he sorted our check-in paperwork. Doubly impressed! What had momentarily looked like a bad start to our holiday was totally rescued by one of the best service experiences I've ever had in a hotel. It was a great start to what was a fantastic few days in an amazing city. The hotel is small but with a really cool vibe and we thought the location for a first time visit to Istanbul was great (although note the hotel is NOT in a touristy area, but it's an easy tram ride to Sultanahmet and very close to the Istanbul Modern.) The room itself was gorgeous (King Panoramic view) - huge space, cool designer furniture, fantastic views over the Bosphorus, very comfortable bed and simple but delicious breakfast every morning. All of the staff at the hotel were fantastic - helpful with directions, tips for things to do, taxis and local restaurant recommendations. Would highly recommend this hotel - hope to get back there one day.

Fabulous hotel with lots of quirky design features - excellent staff who gave us some great recommendations (locally and a bit further afield), helped with sight-seeing directions and booked fantastic restaurants for us. The location makes you feel like you are enjoying the Istanbul of the locals in considerable style but is close enough to all the main attractions that you can also take in the hustle and bustle of this vibrant city. A few days wasn't enough for us to explore fully so looking forward to going back to this gem of a hotel

Room Tip: I suspect there isn't a bad room in this hotel - we had a room on the second floor at the front...

Everyone extremely helpful - especially Ali. Location very good. The street is on a steep hill - very tiring at the end of the day. Great location for Galata, Chingihir, etc. Close to Istanbul Modern. Easy access to old city by tram.

Great little hotel in a great city - loved everything about it. Right from the moment you get on the elevator you can sense the style and subtle humor/joie de vivre of this hotel. Perfect location with postcard views from the upper floors. Closer to everything then you realize at first. Welcome drink was very nice, room was exceptional - very large, clean, comfortable, and with great air conditioning. Bed was great. Shower/bathroom was really nice and different. Breakfast served in the very comfortable and cozy lobby was first rate and a great way to start the day. Loved the location away from the incredibly crowded Sultanahmet area which ensured us access to nice restaurants that were local and not touristy, and quiet streets at night. Would stay here again without hesitation.

Room Tip: Get an upper floor corner view room - sitting in your living room, sipping wine, watching the monume...

The Witt is a beautifully designed hotel located in a great neighborhood. The building is pretty simple with a minimal reception/lounge area (Great service), however the rooms are stunning and of the highest quality. It's located in a hip, bohemian area, just a short walk from the hustle and bustle of taksim square or across the bridge to the popular tourist attractions. If you're looking for a top notch boutique hotel with a central location, the Witt is the right spot for you enjoy Istanbul!

Room Tip: Some of the higher rooms have amazing views over the water/old town.

The Witt was amazing the instant you walked into the door. Stylish, upbeat, with a young and friendly staff. My wife and I spent 2 weeks in Turkey with Istanbul as our first stop. After 20+ hrs in transit, we were greeted by Ali and the wonderful service started immediately with a welcome drink and overview of the hotel, city, location, etc.

We booked a king panoramic suite on the 6th floor and the room was awesome. It was large for even American sizes, comfortable, tastefully decorated. We had a bowl of fresh fruit and bottle of wine for our arrival. The room was spotless and the shower is worth noting in and of itself.

We had a great view of Bosphorus, Blue Mosque, Sultanahmet Palace, etc. The hotel is up a huge hill in the Cihangir section and about a 5 minute walk to Tophane tram station as well as 5 minutes to cafes and restaurants. Very convenient to everything.

Ali, in particular, gave us some wonderful restaurant and other recommendations. The other front desk clerks were equally helpful as well and everyone went out of their way to make you feel welcomed and valued. Breakfast was outstanding and quite the feast.

It was a wonderful experience and set the tone for the start of our Turkey vacation! I highly recommend the Witt and wouldn't stay anywhere else when we return!

The super-cool beds with curved headboards and the laptop desks have been especially designed for Witt Istanbul Suites by Autoban. Sheets and towels were also commissioned from Denizli, a famous purveyor of Turkish linen. Cable TV, an excellent DVD collection, ipod docks and a welcome gift of multi-coloured macaroons are indulgent touches. But it's the bathrooms that make these suites really special. The ergonomic Corian sinks with pebble-shaped handles and the cluster of shower-heads that create a cocoon of misty hot water are all from designer Ross Lovegrove's Istanbul collection from Vitra. ... more   less
