We loved our stay at Tom Tom Suites -- the hotel is modern and beautiful and historic all at once, just like Istanbul -- a completely remodeled nunnery with spacious, comfortable suites and an art gallery inside. The rooms, the breakfast, the staff were all wonderful. The location is fantastic -- in the heart ofthe city, away from the tourist hordes in the old town and in an affluent, hip part of Istanbul a half block away from a 2 mile long pedestrian-only thorough fare with every type of restaurant, cafe, ice cream parlor and art gallery imaginable. We walked there almost every night and felt like we were part of the thriving young professional political Istanbul scene. The tram is two blocks away and we took it daily to museums, the river, and the markets, always happy to arrive back at the refreshing, comfortable and welcoming Tom Tom Suites. Yes the walk to the pedestrian thorough fare is up a steep hill but it is quite short and good for the legs and appetite. If you cannot make it then you can take a slightly longer route via trolley. We found the location to be fantastic and the beuaty, comfort and service to be exceptional.

Me and my husband stayed a week in the hotel and it was amazing. The room was very well decorated, comfortable and clean. The bed and the pillows were between the best I've slept in a hotel. The bathtub was my salvation in the end of a day walking. The products in the bathroom are all from Molton Brown!
The staff was always very attentive and friendly and the breakfast was delicious! They lend you an IPAD, during the breakfast if you want to check the news or your email.
The location is also good, a small calm and safe street. But be prepared to walk, because it is in the almost in the top of a hill.

Five minute walk from Istiklal Caddesi. Up a VERY steep hill. It's quite a work-out. Our quads were sore the next day. But the experience has encouraged me to weight-train more regularly.

Superb hotel. Next to the Italian embassy so literally on a secured street. Quite. Very spacious rooms. We had one of the larger ones because the others were booked. But it was wasted space we never used. I would book the cheapest room you can get. They are all very nice and spacious.

Rooftop restaurant has a great view and is great for drinks. But skip eating here. It is trying to be a top-notch restaurant on the cheap. It's great for folks from the Italian embassy who aren't paying, young Chinese tourists who don't have a clue, and equally clueless Americans who just flew 13 hours and don't want to leave the hotel on their first night (that would be me).

So bottom line: Excellent hotel. Get the cheapest room you can. Restaurant for drinks only. Do quad exercises before you go.

Room Tip: they are all great......get the cheapest you can.

This hotel is truly a gem! The best ambience and best service, combined with a gratis breakfast. I truly doubt the highly touted (and very expensive) well-known hotels in Istanbul would come close. Location-wise, as long as you don't mind walking up a steep hill, the Istiklal Ave with all of its restaurants, bars and great people watching, is moments away. Also, we found the site "walkable" to the old city, or the streetcar makes sight-seeing quite easy. I hate to give away secrets, but this hotel deserves to succeed.

Tomtom Suites exceeded our expectations. We were impressed with size and appearance of the suites, the service, the quality of the food, the location, the comfort of the furnishings, the cleanliness, and the peace and quiet we experienced after long days of touring Istanbul. The hotel is located on a restricted access street, which means that it is excedingly quiet.

Tomtom Suites is the nicest hotel we've ever stayed in.

Room Tip: Rooms on the third floor have Bosphorus views

My husband and our two sisters recently spent 5 nights at Tomtom Suites. Overall, we liked the hotel, but found that service was not up to the standard that one would expect from a small, boutique hotel. The staff was overall polite and friendly, but just didn't go above and beyond to make our stay there memorable. Then, we had an incident on check-out that was very troubling and left us with a negative view of the hotel and management.

First the positives: Tomtom is a very nice property with well-appointed suites and fabulous baths. We have traveled quite a bit throughout Europe, and the breakfast was one of the best we've had in terms of the quality and selection of items. The rooftop lounge is a great way to relax after a hectic day. We also enjoyed the location very much. Although it is a distance from the tourist sights, we enjoyed the liveliness and character of the neighborhood and the proximity to the trendy restaurants. If you stay at Tomtom, do dine at Cezayir. We also had a nice time at 360 Istanbul.

Negatives: As mentioned previously, the service was just okay. Our trip began inauspiciously with a major flight problem with United airlines. Our flight out of Chicago was delayed due to mechanical problem. While the mechanics worked on the plane, the United computer system crashed world-wide, grounding all international flights. Then it was impossible to get re-booked in a timely manner. We were lucky to get out just a day and half late on Turkish airlines, however our luggage was not re-routed as promised and we went for days in Istanbul without our luggage. Obviously, we arrived at the hotel a day later than planned. We had notified the hotel that our flight was canceled and that we would be arriving a day late. Our sisters had been scheduled to arrive the day after we had planned to arrive. When we arrived at the hotel, we were not offered any assistance in terms of the lost luggage. We had reported the luggage as lost upon arrival and were told to call back the next day. We suggested that the hotel might call for us, given there was a significant language barrier when trying to communicate with Turkish airlines, and the staff reluctantly agreed. Our luggage finally arrived (mine on the third day, my husband's on the fourth day). The hotel did offer us a complimentary bottle of champagne for our trouble, which was most appreciated.

Then, upon checkout with a taxi waiting to take us to the airport, we had a major issue. We were charged for the first night when our flight was canceled, as we expected, per hotel policy. However, the hotel insisted that our sisters also arrived a day late. I explained that the sisters had always been scheduled to arrive a day later than us. Even when we were able to pull up an email I had sent to them on the Tomtom's own computer clearly stating the arrival and departure dates for both of our suites, the hotel insisted this was incorrect!!!!!! I had received an email response from Tomtom confirming the correct dates a few days before we left, but unfortunately had not printed it. The hotel could not locate that email confirmation. It took us 30 minutes to check out and ultimately the gentleman at the desk called someone and got approval to drop the extra night from our sister's bill. We had a flight to catch and the whole thing was most disturbing. When I got back to the states, I located the email confirmation from theTomtom and sent it to the hotel indicating how distressing it was to have had to go through an argument when the hotel had clearly confirmed our dates. I did receive an apology from the hotel manager. The fact that the gentleman on check out would not honor the dates in the email from me that he could see in his computer before his very eyes is appalling to me. Why he spent 30 minutes before he called someone is also surprising, when he knew we had a flight to catch.

The other negative, although minor, is the morning noise from the school children coming to school in the courtyard. Our room looked down on the courtyard of the hotel entrance and we were awakened each morning between 7:30 and 8:00 by the high-pitched laughter and screaming of elementary school children coming to school. The noise really carries in the courtyard. Not a big deal, unless you like to sleep in. If so, you may want a room that does not look onto the courtyard.

Overall, I don't think I would stay there again, given all the options in Istanbul, unless I was certain that Tomtom had raised the bar in terms of service.

Dear Tomtom Suites Guest,
Thank you for your positive comments.
Let me explain the following for the rest of your comments :
Our staff is trained to have a perfect balance between being truly interested in the guest's needs, offering assistance and advice while maintaining a professional and respectful attitude. Our welcome desk staff were aware of your lost luggages and although our hotel was not responsable for this unfortunate situation, they called the airline company several a day for faster delivery. We think this helped you for receiving your belongings as quick as it can be. Rest assured, despite the bar of our service is placed very high, we will do our best to meet your expectations and to welcome you again at Tomtom Suites, The Old Franciscan House. Kindest regards.

A small inn, and definitely hard to find, this place is a gem. If you are considering the Four Seasons or Ciragan but you want a more intimate Istanbul experience, you will love this place. Splurge for the loft; the deck alone is worth the price. Overlooking the Marmara Sea, with views of Sultanahmet, it's actually bigger than the suite itself. The service is helpful but not suffocating, and the breakfast is delicious traditional Turkish.
I used to live in Istanbul, and even I had a hard time finding this place. Bring the directions with you and print out a map for your taxi driver. Eventually, the taxi can find the Italian Consulate (if you know the words in Turkish). A small price to pay for being out of the way.
Free wifi also a bonus!
Several people have complained about the hills - you are in Istanbul - no getting around it. You want the views, you have the hills. I also heard complaints about the school children, which really made us nervous. We were not bothered by them, but we left pretty early each morning.
I highly recommend this place. It exceeded our expectations in every way.
