“Wonderful Hotel! Great Location! Superb service and Fantastic Food!”
Reviewed 19 February 2011

We stayed here for a couple of nights to explore the area and visit Istanbul: This hotel is perfectly centrally located, closed to everything. Since our arrival, everything was exquisitely brilliant: The service, the rooms, the location…Everything was simply PERFECT! The architecture of the buildings is fantastic, immaculate and beautifully presented and very clean rooms, superb service, extraordinary staff (I have to say a special Thanks to all of them, they could not have been more helpful and friendly , they made me feel ` at home` and being treated as a Queen `. I sincerely would recommend this hotel to anyone. The best part of the hotel is definitey the restaurant on the terrace on top of the building: the amazing breathless view of Istanbul in front of you and the sky full of stars over you is definitely something you have to experience. I am so pleased we stayed to have our dinner in the hotel because the food is phenomenally good.
So if you travel to Istanbul for business or for pleasure, TOMTOM SUITES is definitely the best hotel I would recommend!

(1) Location: Perfect location - just off Istiklal Caddesi, thus away from the noisy main street but close enough to access all the shops and restaurants at any time of the day. It's location right opposite the Italian Consulate means that the small alley where the hotel is located is controlled by security, which adds a feeling of additional safety. The 'Tophane' tram stop is just 10 mins walk down hill. Alternatively, you could walk up to Istiklal Caddesi (2 min via a short cut), where a further 2 mins easy walk will take you to the Tünel funicular station. The funicular then connects with the Karakoy tram stop. From Tophane tram stop, it's a nice and easy 20 mins journey by tram to Sultanahmet. The area where Tomtom Suites is located is very safe; it's definitely not a "run-down" nor dangerous are. Rather, it has a traditional neighbourhood feel where old residential buildings sit side by side with mosques and local businesses (kebab shops, grocery stores, homeware stores). Never once we felt threatened walking on the surrounding streets at night.

(2) Room: Contemporary, stylish, comfortable, and spacious. The design exudes an East-meet-West atmosphere and represents a perfect blend of new and old. High ceiling throughout, which adds a feeling of additional space. We were upgraded to the Superior Suites, which is marvellous. The room has an extra spacious sitting area, an iPod dock, a king size bed, LCD TV, and tea/coffee making facilities. The bathroom is huge, with separate shower and hydro-massage bath. It provides much needed relaxation and comfort at the end of a busy day. Great bathroom amenities that include Molton Brown soaps, shampoo, and lotion, as well as toothbrushes, shaving kit, bath salt and loofah. Bathrobes and slippers are also provided. The hotel offers a pillow menu and complimentary bottled water in room. Complimentary wireless internet. The room is so cosy that we find it hard to leave every morning!!

(3) Restaurant: The hotel has a breakfast room and a rooftop restaurant. Breakfast was included in the room rate and plentiful. There are different types of cheese and breads, simit, sausage, ham, eggs, cereal, yoghurt, fruits, freshly squeezed juice, and of course, tea and coffee. They even provide iPads for newspaper reading - a great start for the day! We didn't try the rooftop restaurant but the view there is amazing! You could see the Bosphorus and Sultanahmet in distance - a great place to linger!

(4) Public areas: The hotel has a library where you could borrow some DVDs and to use the internet and printer. The lobby has a cosy sitting area with some interesting art works and displays. Glass elevator, which is also a nice feature.

(5) Service: Excellent staff! Service is very attentive - it was raining one morning and a staff member gently handed over an umbrella as we were about to step out the hotel! Every staff in the hotel is friendly, courteous, pleasant, and warm. They always made us feel very welcome, and no question is ever too much. They are always willing and ready to help - whenever we had a request, they responded to it immediately. Everyone working at Tomtom Suites appears to enjoy their job! The atmosphere is simply fabulous! We thoroughly enjoy the Turkish hospitality of Tomtom Suites!!

A brilliant hotel with cozy staff, awesome food in restaurant with a fabulous view to the Bhosphorous, clean rooms and a historical atmosphere what you will experience. It is also located in the hearth of Istanbul where you will feel the beats of brightness. I was there with some collegues and even it was a bussiness trip, I had the possibility to see some must-see places since it was really central. You can leave yourself into the arms of a stunning nightlife if you are in the mood with lots of activities going on just beside. However, if quiescence is what you are looking for, the hotel can also possess your soul in peace. I am sure that you would definitaley be writing a comment like mine just after visiting Tomtom.

The experience staying at the Tomtom Suites was wonderful. The hospitality and accommodation from the hotel staff was superb. The restaurant, the chef and the staff were professional and welcoming. The presentation of the food was beautifully displayed and tempting to the eyes to eat. The taste of the food at the restaurant was delicious and freshly made. The view from the restaurant is amazing, one can see all of Turkey's history, skyline and diversity. It's so romantic to go with a mate or a partner. I recommend everyone to visit this hotel and restaurant.

In my personal opinion, this hotel is one of the many hidden gems of Istanbul. Located in an area not very easy to get if you are driving yourself. I would advise taking a taxi to get there. The service from the first "hello" until the last "bye" was impecable. The terrace restaurant wiew is second to none. The food was excellent. The staff was very nice. In short, next time I am going to Isnbul, I dont believe I will stay anywehere else. Highly recomended.

My wife and I stayed at TomTom Suites at the end of January 2011. Overall, this is a very comfortable, spacious and stylish hotel. Our suite was very clean with little to no wear. Bed was comfortable, although a bit hard for my preference. A selection of bed pillows are provided. The all marble bathroom was gorgeous, complete with a Philippe Starck whirlpool tub, 2 sinks, and a separate shower. Beautiful wood floors, attractive art work, lamps and decorations rounded out the remainder of the suite.

Given the above, I can recommend TomTom suites. However, the following should be noted:

1) Hotel is located in the Beyoğlu district of Istanbul. If you are only coming to Istanbul only for a few days, most of the major tourist sites are located on the other side of the Golden Horn (ie - Blue Mosque, Basilica Cistern, Hagia Sophia, Topkapi Palace). It would be about a 30 min walk or so. There is a taxi rank just up the street, and a cab ride is less than 10 TL. The problem seems to be getting back as even taxis with meters seem to charge several times as much on the other side of the Golden Horn. Most taxi drivers do not know the city well, and even providing them with a map some dropped us off several blocks from the hotel.

2) The Beyoğlu district is fairly hilly. There is a very steep hill from the Hotel up to the main street.

3) There are few recommended restaurants in the area. If you review the top restaurants in Trip Advisor, they are mostly all located on the other side of the Golden Horn.

4) The Hotel appears to have recently changed their in house restaurant. The "Bistro" as indicated on their website appeared to be all but closed. The Terrace Bar upstairs has been changed to a modern/contemporary restaurant. We ate there once, and the food was decent, but the portions were small. After a long day exploring Istanbul, this wouldn't be my first choice for a filling meal. The Hotel needs a more accessible restaurant.

5) Room service is poor. Menu is extremely limited - caesar salad, hamburgers, and a few other items. We called room service one night and asked what the hamburger came with and was told that it didn't come with anything. When it was delivered, it came with fries. Also, we asked if anything could be ordered that was not on the room service menu - we were told if we wanted something else to come to the restaurant. That would defeat the purpose of room service! Other hotels such as the W will gladly accommodate such requests.

6) Breakfast Buffet is extremely limited. Although they can make eggs, omelets on request, there are no other hot items. Mostly cereal, bread, some cheese and cold cuts.

7) Area directly around hotel is run down. There is an empty lot next door. Next to that there are a series of abandoned buildings, some with collapsed roofs etc. Not sure how safe the area is or not, but the front desk told us not to carry much cash with us when we go out! (although this is sound advice for any large city, it is not exactly reassuring for the hotel to mention this to you as soon as you check in).

8) The street the Hotel is on is blocked by security for the Italian embassy, so you can't catch a cab outside the hotel and cab drivers can't drop you off out front.

9) There is a school located right across the street that I believe is associated with the Italian embassy there. Every morning around 7:30 to 8am the area outside turns into a school yard with children yelling. It didn't bother me personally, but if you are a light sleeper this could be an issue.

10) I would say generally hotel staff seemed friendly. However, they do need additional training. The front desk had recommended a local historic hamam and even provided a brochure. The brochure gave the impression that it was high end but it turned out to be anything but. The women hamam attendants were old, rude and continually yelled at my wife in Turkish. The attendant rubbed my wife's neck so hard she experienced a large abrasive cut. When we brought this to the attention of the front desk at checkout, no apology was offered.

After reading the reviews about this hamam on trip advisor (wish we had done so before my wife went!), it is rated extremely poorly. It doesn't seem like the hotel vets any of their recommendations.
