I stayed there with my father for 4 nights, it was a family hotel, narrow corridors and rooms but the service was great and the people working there were nice and caring. It is situated near Istiklal st and may be 5-10 min walking distance from taksim sq. There were also near mosque, where we could pray "keyam" "taraweeh" as we were there during RAMADAN ... It was a nice trip, I may be planning for another family trip and most probably in the same hotel.

I stayed here in January 2013 in a twin share room, following a great experience last year on my way back home from overseas. I am an Australian female living in Turkey and have travelled a lot - as such I'm usually kind in my hotel reviews. The quality of this hotel and service however dropped drastically from 12mths ago, and the price had gone up. Although the hotel is located very centrally just off Taksim Square, the deteriorating standard of rooms and fittings (ie no soap, telephone didn't work, tired bedding, poky rooms & dreary breakfast room/food) could not be ignored. For the same price you can better in the same area A real shame, as this was a little gem last year that has sadly gone downhill..

Room Tip: request a larger room if possible, they are available..

Hotel Residence is located just off the main drag, surrounded by all the activity of Istiklal street. It was recommended to me that I stay in the new city and I am so glad that I did. It has a young, diverse, progressive and somewhat local feel (in contrast to all the tourists in the old city and more traditional feel). The hotel is also a short walk to Cihangir and cukurcuma, very quaint areas with small boutiques, cafes, interesting architecture and a bohemian vibe. It is also totally easy to walk all the way to the old city across the Galata bridge or walk to the tram stop at Tophane. This hotel is in a great location, I can't emphasize enough. It is definitely budget, but the staff is nice and helpful. I always felt safe as a woman traveling by myself coming and going. The room was tiny, but clean and comfortable. It was a little stuffy, but given the price overall it was a great stay. One thing to note is that Istiklal street is the party area of Istanbul and the party never stops. Turn the AC on and close your window or wear earplugs. But, once again, the value and location of this hotel really outweigh some of the nuisances like noise and stuffiness. Additionally, the Turkish breakfast in the morning is fantastic. I was definitely please with my stay at Hotel Residence and basically went totally from the reviews on trip adivisor when picking it. Hope this helps!

If you are not looking for a fancy stay with a pretty view but a clean, affordable stay right in the heart of the most buzzing street - Istiklal Street, in Taksim then this is perfect. Not many people in Turkey speak English, however the hotel staff did which was a sigh of relief and were always helpful and informative whenever we needed help.

The biggest advantage of staying at the Residence is that you get out, walk 10steps and you are on Istiklal which is home to an array of excellent restaurants, cafes, pubs, clubs, shopping, and just loads of happy people.

Disadvantages:
If you are a light sleeper and it's the weekend (Fri/Sat) this place maybe too busy or loud for you.

One thing to note, i realized after staying in 4 different hotels during our entire holiday is that most hotels serve the Turkish breakfast (baguette, boiled eggs, tomato, cucumber, cheese, butter, olives, turkish tea/coffee) which i will be honest i wasnt a big fan of. I found it extremely hard to find a place that offered omelette or cereal or regular english tea. So carry your own tea/cereal if you are finicky.

We stayed in Residence hotel for 6 nights and our stay was very pleasant. It's location is perfect, 2 mins walk from Istiklal st (3 blocks away from Istiklal) and 10 mins walk from Taksim sq and the metro station though the room was quite and we didn't hear any noise from the near by bars. The room was small but had everything one could need A/C, TV, minibar,... etc. The hotel is very clean and same is the room which was cleaned daily also the dirty towels were changed. The breakfast was very good and delicious with variety of turkish cheese, olives, cucumbers, variety of jams & honey, cold meats, different kinds of bread, 2 or 3 kinds of eggs, various turkish pastries, 3 types of fruits, coffee machine and juice machine. The hotel staff were very helpful and friendly, they spoke English well and they are available 24 hrs. Special thanks to Mr. Mesut, the manager, who was very kind, friendly and helpful.
I'll definitly stay there again next time.
