I was looking forward to my evening at Divan in Kalamis. My expectations were high, as it is a Divan place. However, I have to say I was disappointed.
The service was slow, compared to the usual exceptional service levels found in high quality restaurants in Istanbul. We arrived and sat at our table and waited for our friend. During the first 10 minutes or so, while waiting, we were not even offered a glass of water. Standard practice at any restaurant here. After finishing the water, we weren't poured another glass the whole evening and no bottle had been placed on our table to help ourselves. At the end of the evening, I asked for water. It didn't come, I asked another waiter who eventually brought it.
Onto the food. I have to say that it was tasty but not brilliant given the prices! I don't mind higher prices but I expect the service to be very good and the food to have something special about it. What I ate here, I could eat at any mid-range restaurant for less.
The location is lovely I must say. In the Marina at Kalamis and plenty of parking in the car park was available (the weather was not great so perhaps emptier than normal). Although we sat inside due to the weather, the decor is elegant and being next to the yachts and water is relaxing.
Overall, a disappointing visit sadly. Would I go back, yes I probably would - if not for the lovely location and peacefulness, perhaps for breakfast next time, but I will be ready for a slower service and lower my expectations.
