In my 5 visits to Istanbul I have never stayed in the historic area of Sultanahmet. The choice for Darussaade was made in 5 minutes when I had to make a last minute change on travel plans. I must say I did not regret it. Granted that the hotel is at the end of the road, but it is very good value for money. I was a little disappointed that while they have a rooftop terrace, breakfast is served in a windowless basement - this being a glorious summer, it is less appealing. Also, why charge extra for omelets when clients are paying the full fare for breakfast?
One thing I have noticed about all small hotels in Istanbul, the single rooms are tiny! Put a double bed and there is barely room for your bag or any movement. It was the same at Darussaade, but I have to say that the room is well furnished, clean and professionally made up. The rooms are also so well scented that it feels like being in a spring meadow.
The staff is very helpful and friendly.
