Although freshly painted and clean there were a number of things we didn't like. The double mattress in our room was dreadful - the springs had collapsed on one side, which meant there was a flat surface for one of us and a slope for the other. Fortunately there was another bed in the room with a decent single mattress on it so I slept on that. To give then their due, someone came up to inspect when we complained, but instead of the new mattress that was needed either the one we had was turned over, or it was replaced by one that was only slightly better. The extra bed in the room although we needed it, made it extremely cramped. There was only one chair in the bedroom. There was no lounge. There were 4 sofas in reception, and although you could sit in the breakfast room in the evening the lights were switched off after 10.00pm on the night we looked for somewhere to sit. The breakfast room was nice. Situated at the top of the hotel you had a panoramic view of the coast. The breakfast was ok. The location was alright, but the hotel is at the bottom of the steep hill leading to the Blue Mosque, Hagia Sofia etc. You can find hotels that are much closer than the 25 min walk required. Situated near the fish market, there are a number of restaurants close by making eating out easy which was good. There was an outdoor area which might have been nice but it was closed. We had the impression the hotel is in a stage of transition and hasn't quite got there yet, not very good considering Best Western is a major hotel chain.
