“Friendly and excellent location”
Reviewed 17 August 2014

We stayed 5 nights in this hotel in August 2014 and really liked it. The hotel was small and very friendly with an excellent location. It was cozy and very welcoming. The staff were very helpful in particular Yacob the night receptionist. The staff were respectful and didn't make you feel that you had to tip for every tiny bit of service. We were a group of 5 and they made sure our group for seated together for breakfast and made a special effort to accommodate the fussy eaters.

All in all I would recommend this hotel for location, friendliness, respect and a welcome introduction to Istanbul.

Although I do feel you need to be aware this hotel is located at the base of a very steep hill. You have to walk up the hill to reach the main road and tram. There are other ways round but take much longer so be warned but don't let it put you off.

I stayed on night at Amber Hotel en route to the airport.
The hotel is centrally located with walking distance to the sights and with the very pleasant restaurant area Kumkapi around the corner.
Reception staff was very friendly and helpful and got me accomodated quickly. The room was rather spacious albeit with a small bathroom. Bed was OK. The style is very homey, if your house was built in 1850 and you kept the furniture and furnishings.
The roof-top terrace where breakfast is served in very nice, with the extra touch to the experience made by the charming waitress/host. The terrace has a good view to the neighbourhood, the ocean and the top of the Blue Mosque.
One reason for the average rating is the first floor of the hotel which was a mess with appliances, furniture and garbage stashed in every corner. There is a nice patio there, but it was not in use.
For the money I paid it was not really worth it, but I would possibly go back if rate was lower.

Few nights in that city and i can say that people at the hotel are a good representation of the city citizens: polite, friendly, respectful and helpful. The hotel is close enough to the touristic center without being right in. So you can experience a bit a real live of Istambul by mingling with street vendors and cafe who served local people. Yet a wlaking siatance to Aya Sofia, teh Cistern etc A very enjoyable stay

The whole staff without exception were welcoming and pleasant, the hotel driver very helpfull as we were a group of 8, the chef did prepare a special home made turkish dinner, few steps away they are many fish restaurants, we met the owner and his youngest son, hospitality makes you feel at home, the only thing the hotel is up 800 meters from the old center, it was steepy, I had broken my leg, the taxi wont drive you up to the hotel, BUT I will come back, I love Istanbul, it reminds me the old Cairo

Room Tip: all room are nice, clean, spacious, in a quiet area

Wonderful staying at the Best Western Amber Hotel. Picturesque location in the middle of the historical centre of Istambul. Super clean and tidy rooms in spite of their size (a bit small our triple one).
Excellent breakfast and dinner served at the roof terrace. By the way, pretty views over the Marmara

I felt really moved by all the staff assistance. Special thanks to Neda, she was so helpful...

Congratulations for your professionalism! Please, stay the same in the future!

Hope to meet you again

Excellent location, very friendly and accommodating Staff. Stayed 6 nights and the breakfast never changed, which was a little disappointing as I appreciate some variety. Room was small but comfortable. TV is 95% Turkish language. Wi-FI is very good. Breakfast on the room terrace was a delight, though the sun is very warm in July. My room prices during Ramadan were very reasonable.

We stayed at this hotel last month for three nights as part of two centre holiday in Turkey which we booked through Anatolian Sky. The room we were given L002 was the worst hotel room I have ever encountered. It is directly behind the reception desk and next to the lift, you can hear every word said in the reception area and all the noise of the lift. And there was no natural light either. We complained about the room which they are obviously used to and we were moved to a much better room the next day but the first night of our holiday was ruined. I have complained to the holiday company about using this room but they do not seem to care so be VERY careful if you book this hotel through them and if you have a choice go somewhere else.

Room Tip: Avoid room L002 like the plague.
