“Great Conference Hotel”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 4 April 2014

Would recommend this hotel as a great conference venue - staff were very helpful and polite; conference facility rooms were great, the Business Centre staff were very helpful (especially in understanding how a Turkish keyboard works!); my room was very comfortable and lovely to have breakfasts up in the 18th floor restaurant overlooking Istanbul. The lifts had a mind of their own (in that if you were waiting for one they would often by-pass your floor) but it made for an entertaining time! The hotel is a bit far from main attractions (though pretty close to the Metro - about five minutes walk - we caught the metro to Taksim Square one evening) but that is good when one's at a conference and needs to focus there during the day! Restaurants, ATMS and foreign exchange facilities are very close by as well as taxis.

Stayed here as part of a conference group and it was a decent value. Location is 1/2 hr-45min from all the sites and the more interesting parts of town. This was probably good for a conference since it ensured we stayed all day! Room, in terms of space and decor was fine, though sofa in my room was not entirely clean. Biggest problem was the overwhelming stench of cigarette smoke. I left my windows open all day and couldn't get rid of it. Turns out the cleaning folks were smoking in the stairwell (or maybe their break room?) and the vents opened into my room. Same for the bathroom where smoke from other rooms kept coming in through the air vents. I felt like I smoked a pack the four days I was there. Food was better than average.

This hotel is clean and comfortable, and they give a good breakfast. The staff are friendly and fairly helpful. They gym and pool are nice. But there are some drawbacks: First, it is located in a really boring part of Istanbul. You need to take a taxi to get to anything interesting. Second, the bathrooms (or at least my bathroom) smelled strongly of sewer gas, and I wasn't able to close the drains to make it stop. Third, their business center is pretty much nonfunctional: Their computers are all in Turkish, and I was never able to get the printer to work after several tries. There was no one available to help me through it. Many (most?) of their visitors are from other countries, so they need to make allowances for that.

Point Hotel Barbaros is a very modern, artsy property with very high standards of service. Besides the standard amenities, gym, pool, business center, barber, spa, free internet etc. what stands out are a top floor restaurant with dramatic and panoramic views of the Bosphorous Strait and the city; a large video game room, and the use of edgy art--video art in the elevators and lounge areas, walls of photographs in the atrium, and historic black and white photos in the top floor restaurant, evocative of a bygone era in Istanbul. To top it all off, the staff were most courteous, helpful, and professional. Wonderful experience.

A very comfortable stay. The hotel has historical pictures setup against an ambient backdrop on each floor, sort of like a mini-museum. The room was spacious and the furniture and theme were very well set. The staff was very prompt in taking care of requests, and warm / friendly in general. The late night menu had a good selection of food. I found the room extras (fridge items) to be over priced. The hotel is located 10 minutes away from Istiklal street. I would highly recommend it to anyone looking to stay away from the main travel zone, but just close enough. The downside is, you would have to either take a taxi or catch a bus for any major tourist attractions in the city.

The overall atmosphere is very well suited for business travellers. I highly recommend it, even though I find it to be a bit on the pricey side.

ps. I particularly loved the showers

Room Tip: I wouldn't stress too much on getting a higher floor, the elevated view is not worth it :)

Dear Guest,

Thank you very much for your comments. We are glad to hear that you had a good stay and enjoyed the photography by Ara Güler throughout the hotel. Your nice words about our staff is always motivating and your opinions will lead us to better service. Please keep in mind that you can also use the public transport to the major attractions. You just have to take the funicular which is really close by and then change there to tram which is going directly to Sultanahmet, district of the major attractions. We just wanted to give some information if you decide to come to Istanbul and of course, we hope to see you again.

Best Regards

The stay at The Point Hotel was pleasant. The room was large and comfortable, still from the cleaning point of view it can be better. Breakfast was good, offering a large variety of choices; the best part was the view over Bosphorus.
I find the hotel good for business trips.
