A 5 minute walk to the tram station that takes you to all the sights. The rooms are pleasant. The staff are very helpful including the hotel manager who sat down with us and showed us where everything was on the map and how to get there. The buffet breakfast was wonderful! All at a very reasonable price. In steaming Istanbul, ice-cold air conditioning was very welcome! 10 minute walk to the metro that takes you right to the airport as well - for about 75 pence, saving us the airport transfer fee we paid on the way there.

Great hotel , fantastic location , staff very friendly , very clean with brilliant service . All floors had a massage chair and hot and cold water canisters .plus our room was on the 3rd floor we had a ice machine as well

I want you to know that we are so sorry that our breakfast was not satisfactory for you but i also would like to state that we have very big breakfast buffet, a lot bigger than the near by hotels, Please check our official website to learn more about our breakfast buffet. We serve mostly Turkish Breakfast but a little bit on the international side. But, i will be bringing your comments to our next board meeting and discuss it with our management. Small bathroom, poor breakfast, but I am satisfacted about this hotel. It's at 4 tram stations from Sofia and Blue Moschee and you can walk about 20 min. Near to Grand Bazaar. You have metro and tram station near.
It is good to stay in Istanbul at this hotel.
For breakfast is poor. 3, 4 kinds of cheese, many verdures, crepes and sausages with fries. A litle bit mor of that but nin impresive.

Thank you very much for staying and at Buyuk Keban and sharing your opinions with other travelers, we want you to know that we really appreciate it.

Having said that, we area a 3-Star budget hotel located in the center of Istanbul and our room sizes vary anywhere from 23 to 26 m2’s which is larger than Istanbul’s average. On the other hand, I would like to state that, we have more than 6 different types of cheese selection that is served fresh daily. Please check our official website to learn more about our breakfast buffet. We serve mostly Turkish Breakfast but a little bit on the international side.

Our dearest guest, we would like to thank you once again for choosing our hotel and sharing your opinions about it here on tripadvisor.com, I will be making note of the comments you have made and bring them up on our next board meeting.

Very friendly and helpful staff, great location. Maps, attractions and locations are provided by concierge which was extremely helpful. Air con was great, rooms are nice and clean. Service wasn't missed always on time. Highly recommended and will go back :)

BUYUK KEBAN ISTANBUL

There are thousands of hotels in Istanbul. Because of the favourable reviews I chose Buyuk Keban. Indeed there is a warm welcome and the staff are very friendly. On entering our room we found the air conditioning was not on but were told it was fine, it was not working because the balcony door was ajar.

The next day it was still not working and we complained. We were out all day and came back to the room and it was still not working correctly. On the third day we complained again after the room temperature reached 31°. The “Engineer” came to the room with a drill and a can WD40 which he sprayed into the unit. The room was unbearable. After over an hour we were told there was nothing that could be done. This was around midnight so we insisted on a different room. We were moved to room 414.

The next day on entering room 414 the temperature was 27° and the air conditioning could not be switched on. My partner complained again and “three Engineers” arrived. After approximately an hour they got the air conditioning working. Apparently this work can only be carried out if the occupants are in the room. We spent up to three nights in hot rooms waiting for the air conditioning to be repaired and three hours in the rooms while it was being repaired.

The second room 414 had a wonderful shower but it leaked very badly and the floor was awash with water.

At reception we booked a shuttle bus to bring us to the airport which cost 15 Euro each. On the way to the airport I noticed after about 35 minutes that we were going in the wrong direction. We notified the driver who did not speak English so he pulled into the side of the road and left us with a taxi. Again the taxi driver did not speak English. We did not think it was our responsibility to pay for this taxi so we contacted the hotel who initially informed us that it was not their responsibility, it was our fault and we had been confused. At no time when we were booking the shuttle bus were we asked the name of the airport and only knew the name of the airport we needed which was ATATURK. After several phone calls to the hotel and trying to understand an irate taxi driver did the hotel agree to pay the taxi.

We also would like to tell you that we really appreciate the feedback that we receive from our guests since it is the best and most objective way to learn about our cons and fix them.

Having said that, we are really sorry to hear that your stay did not met your expectations. From what we understood from your review is that you only had a problem with the AC in you room. Everything else seems to be fine yet you only rated us with a one-star but of course that is okay and understandable.

We want you to know that we have refurbished all of our AC units in our hotel and there shouldn't be any problem with them in the future.

Dear AA1and2, we would hope to see you back here in our hotel in the near future so that we can make this experience up to you.

So we checked in on a Saturday night quite late, having booked the room 3 months ahead. The evening manager at the time gave us our room keys, wifi codes and called for someone to take our bags. We then crammed into one of the two tiny lifts and went to our room on the 3rd floor. Once entering the room, there was a strong smell of sewage! The concierge then turned everything on and off waiting for a tip.... Once I gave him a tip, he left. About an hour later, we had to leave the hotel due to such a strong stench of sewage! I mean I know Istanbul, and even by Istanbul standards this is bad.

We were also given 2 single beds rather than a double, which we booked 3 months prior. We decided to go and stay with family close by for the evening and speak to the hotel manager the day after.

The next day, we were offered 3 new rooms which we had a look at. Once we chose a room, the manager agreed to change our room and arrange for the bed to be exchanged for a double. We came back 2 hours later and guess what.. 3 singles and no double. In the end we pushed the beds together for the night and changed rooms again the next day..

Once speaking to management and again, they changed the room... This time, the air conditioning didn't work and it was two singles tied together, rather than a double, which meant the beds kept separating at night!! Anyway, at 11:30 in the evening after a long day sight seeing, the management send a man up with a drill and a bucket to fix the aircon and disrupt our evening.. (I even recorded it if anyone wants to see?)

Again we complained and in the end, ended up with a double bed, air con and a smelly toilet which we bought air fresheners for.

My biggest concerns were that it took nearly 5 rooms before we were given the double bed we booked and had paid for, most of the managers (except for the elder manager who wore glasses) didn't seem to care and that the cleaners left our room open TWICE! The WIFI drops every 10 or so minutes, the walls are quite thin and the hotel is genuinely noisy! The breakfast is luke warm at best and all the rooms we saw had something wrong with them

I myself am Turkish and can understand the language. I won't comment on the things they said about us and other tourists, not knowing that I am fluent.

In any event, I would stay somewhere else. The location is perfect but I stay in Istanbul twice a year, and this year, I made a massive mistake.

We are approved by Turkish Hotels Agency, Ministry of Tourism and online platforms such as expedia.com, booking.com and obviously tripadvisor.com.

Regarding your case, we tried contacting you, we offered you several different solutions for your problems and they were all rejected by your side.

We stayed in hotel for 5 nights from 26 May 2014 . We found the cleanest hotel we have ever
stayed in and we loved everything about the hotel.Although it is a 3 star hotel but we found
it a lot better than 4 star. The location is ideal for tourists.
The buffet breakfast was excellent with good and healthy food and great variety, with something for every taste.
Above all staff was very very friendly and courteous
