We had a great four-night stay at the Bucoleon Palace in mid-June, despite the hotel having a few kinks that still need to be worked out. First, the good:

*Location: the hotel is south and slightly east of the Hippodrome and the Blue Mosque in Sultanahment. There are many hotels and restaurants nearby and it is undeniably "touristy," but it is a far cry from the madness closer to Sultanahmet Park and areas toward the Grand Bazaar. We thought it was a great area for visitors to the Old City, as it is very close to all of the great sites (less than a ten minute walk) but there is no hassling from street vendors, and it is on a very quiet and charming street without any shops, hawkers, etc.

*Views: We stayed in a suite looking south out over the Sea of Marmara, which was a lovely view. There is a construction site between the hotel and the Sea itself that does not detract from the view. Some of the rooms face north toward the Blue Mosque, etc., but we did not see that view.

*Food: Breakfast was a delicious, hearty spread that was good enough to have been homemade. Tons of different options (roasted vegetables, cereal, etc), in addition to all of the Turkish breakfast staples like cheese, olives and fresh bread. The woman who was in charge of breakfast service was very friendly and looked out for us by serving us tea and picking out tasty stuff from the buffet that we hadn't tried.

*Room: Large, clean and comfortable. Great water pressure in the shower. The bed was perfect.

*Service: Friendly and polite. Someone was always at the front desk and chatted with us when we came in and left every day.

The kinks:

*Front Desk: Although polite, the people at the front desk weren't really able to help with a couple of questions we had due to the language barriers. We wanted to make reservations at several local restaurants and asked the front desk person to help us; he said that he would but never actually made the reservations. The night before we left we also asked for a cab the next morning; the front desk person said that he would arrange it but when we came down the next morning we had to have them call again. Not huge issues, clearly.

*Room: The safe didn't work initially and we had several issues with the keycard and door locking mechanism, which worked about 10-15% of the time. I also couldn't get the TV to work, but I never called down about it.

Overall we were very pleased with the value of this hotel; given the prime location, quiet street, and the quality of breakfast we would gladly return.

Stayed here for a total of 4 nights and highly recommend this hotel.

Firstly, the staff are incredibly helpful. My bags were carried to my room on arrival, all my questions (and there were many!) were answered knowledgeably and they even helped me book a fantastic hotel for my subsequent travel to Bodrum.

The room itself was decent sized - I was travelling by myself so enjoyed the double bed. The bathroom was quite spacious and came with soap and shower gel. The only negative I can pick is that the shower head was loose and fell during a shower, but this was no major issue and easily fixed.

The room also included breakfast on the rooftop with views out toward the Bosphorus Strait - quite a nice way to start the day.

The location was very convenient for me, it was a 5 minute walk to the Blue Mosque and a bit farther to Ayasofia (a must see!). It was a 20TL taxi ride across to Taksim Square, and a €7 shuttle bus ride to Ataturk airport. There are numerous restaurants within a ten minute stroll of the hotel, and there is also a convenience store/small market next door to the hotel (ask for Ramazan - he is super helpful)

Overall, I enjoyed my stay at Bucoleon Palace and will definitely stay there in the future.

Room Tip: Ask for a room on one of the higher floors if you are a light sleeper - there may be some noise from...

My wife and I stayed at Bucoleon Palace Hotel for three days in mid-April 2014. I had planned to stay at the near-by Cheers Lighthouse Hostel (which is also an excellent choice - I stayed there a few months before) but was a bit late getting around to reserving and it was already fully booked. Yavuz at Cheers suggested I contact Bucoleon Palace Hotel as an alternative.

Everything worked out very well - a clean, comfortable room and most gracious hosts. Mr. Sunay Yilmaz ensured that we were well-taken care of. At the end of our first day of exploring Istanbul, we came back to our room to find a large platter of delicious foods and wine!

I highly recommend this hotel for its comfort, convenient location and most kind and friendly mangagement.
