“Best hotel in istanbul sultanahmet”
Reviewed 14 August 2014 via mobile

I have stayed there for 9 nights .. and i booked 2 rooms .. it was very nice and very comfortable .. the workers were very helpful .
Honestly when I read the comments about this hotel .. I was hesitant .. but when I came to the hotel .. it was completely different from the comments what I read .. If I went to istanbul again .. i am be sure I'll book in this hotel ..

We stayed in this hotel for two nights. We were assigned room 402, which was on the street (noisy). The radiator was leaking, and this was cleaned up on request but not fixed. The A/C remote did not seem to work. Half of the circular tub/shower door was MISSING. the toilet was free standing from the wall and it had been apparently replastered to the wall. A metal object of unknown provenance was used to prop up the toilet from the floor below. There was no lavatory stopper. The bed was two twins pulled together and the pronounced sag was visible through the bedcovers. The included breakfast consisted of cold cuts and soggy French toast, mostly. The view from the breakfast room was very good, and the location was excellent, less than a block from the Basilica Cistern, but this did not justify the completely outrageous charge of US$333 for two nights. Book this place only if your first 15 hotels are booked up.

The hotel located in Sultanahmet area, which is also called the historic district. A taxi ride from Ataturk airport shouldn't cost mute than YTL 45. It's possible to get there using the metro and tram lines, which would be much cheaper. You'll have to take into consideration the feasibility of carrying your luggage during rush hours, as the trains get quite packed. If you're travelling light, then get a public transport card called Istanbulkart from the airport for each traveler, it costs YTL 7, and charge it using the automated machines with cash. Each trip costs around YTL 1.50. Keep in mind, to get to Sultanahmet, you'll have to switch from the metro to tram at Zeytinburnu station and continue on it towards Kabatas, until you reach Sultanahmet station. When going there for the first time, make sure you carry a map to their location and their phone number, as most taxi drivers don't know the exact location.
The street that leads to the hotel has the entrance to the Bacilica Cistern and is right opposite attractions such as the Hippodrome, Hagia Sophia, Topkapi palace and the Blue Mosque. Even though it is in such close proximity to all these attractions, the street is always peaceful.
The hotel isn't big, it's got more of a bed and breakfast vibe to it. There are 5 floors with 4 rooms on each floor and the 6th floor is the terrace, which has the restaurant. There's a single elevator for both guests and services. Check in was quick and without trouble. All the staff were friendly, attentive and helpful. The hotel has an adjoining tourism office with various offers to different locations, both within and outside Istanbul. They also provide a paid airport shuttle service.
We requested for a room on a higher floor and were provided one on the 5th floor. The room was quite big, compared to the matchbox sized rooms that most hotels provide these days. Even though we requested a double room, we had a third single bed, which kind of cramped the space. Some of the pictures we saw prior to the visit, gave an impression that rooms had balconies, which they didn't. They did have large Windows with views of the historic attractions. The interior decor was a bit outdated, but, clean. There was a single switch for all the lights in the room, which prevents ambient lighting. The amenities provided were a split air conditioner, cable TV, mini bar, cupboard (be careful not to hit your feet when opening it), safe, bathtub with pseudo Jacuzzi, hybrid bidet toilet (attached directly to the wall and hence, creaky) and hairdryer. No water kettle, coffee/tea or dental kit. Bathroom slippers and daily clean towels with rest of the toiletries were also provided. We didn't try room service, but, they only operated till 2200 daily.
Breakfast buffet was from 0730 to 1030. The terrace seating gave great views of the surrounding buildings. They had the usual fresh juices, coffee (not Turkish), tea and milk for drinks. Cold items were plenty, like cheeses, fruits, salad, deli meats and different cereals with dried fruits. Hot items were limited to boiled eggs and sausage. The cooking stations were behind the buffet, but, didn't always have a cook. I requested and got scrambled eggs on the first day, but, for the rest of my stay didn't find the cook. They had a third hot item that differed everyday. The limited selection didn't bother us much, as they had Simit (Turkish bagel), which in addition to nutella spread was all my wife needed anyway.
There were plenty of restaurants and bars all around the hotel with a few grocery stores as well. Lots of municipality approved carts selling roasted chestnuts, corn and Simit were nearby.
A tip for those interested in visiting museums, the museum pass was a godsend. It costs YTL 85 per person and gives you access to most of the government run museums and attractions for 72 hours from the first time you use it. The waiving of long queues to fast track with the pass alone justifies the price and saves a lot of time. The museum pass is sold out of black vans with the Muze sign, located in front of Hagia Sophia. Get there early to avoid waiting in a queue for the museum pass. The pass also offers discounts at various places.

Room Tip: Rooms on higher floors have better views, you can request for them while booking
