We enjoyed everyplace we visited including the Grand Bazaar as well as the Spice Market. The Spice Market had what we found to be the best prices for things we wanted to bring home. You could find it fast so that you could, spend your time touring the historical buildings.

Love the ease of access and the endless streets to wander. History by the ton! Shopping and restaurants are plentiful though you do have to look a bit harder for the good restaurants.

Historic areas are all close together. Go on a tour small if you can. The crowds are very large. Very clean and very safe. You can buy water very cheaply. Good food available and tourist type shopping. Stall holders very friendly. It is a credit to Turkey the way these areas are presented. Was very hot. Turkey has 25million tourists a year!

For our first trip in Istanbul, this Sultanahmet area with all the historical, beautiful buildings of Aya Sofia, Blue Mosque, Topkapi Palace are wonderful. Hope to be back some days.

Loved the mosques, didn't enjoy the Grand Bazaar which is simply too crowded. Liked the sense of safety walking along quiet, hidden streets. People generally friendly.
