“So much history and culture packed into this city”
Reviewed 20 July 2014

Istanbul is definitely a place to visit. On our second visit to this historic city we found ourselves astonished with the confluence of cultures with so much to see and do.

The people are extremely friendly, helpful and hospitable. We also found the city, its restaurants, streets and transportation systems to be very clean and safe.

The Blue Mosque and the old town in Sultanahmet had so much to offer. The Archaeological Museum in Gulhame is definitely worth a visit.

I would recommend a stay of at least 3-4 days to be able to see and do enough in Istanbul.

“Lots to See!”
Reviewed 19 July 2014

You can spend a lot of time seeing all there is to offer. Lots of history here and a plus for us was finding cheap friendly little places to eat doner and grab a cold drink.

“full of things to see”
Reviewed 19 July 2014

went during Ramadan, which was fine, just meant that there was less crowds, experience was great if you are into history and culture.

travel was easy, stayed in the Sultanahmet and walked everywhere, however you can take tram/train around easily.

Frequent tram service - easy to use, think next time I might get a travel card, however if you are taking one journey and switching from tram to train, they might charge you for separate journeys, so not like taking the tube/overground in London. Cheap to travel though, 4 lire for one journey irrespective of distance on the same mode of transport.

if you want to go to the Asian side on public transport you can take the train for ferry, depending on which ferry company you use, prices vary.

major sites in the Sultanahmet all worth seeing, but Museum of Turkish and Islamic was closed, so i think in Fairness, Turkey should have reduced the price of the Museum pass, a three day pass is priced at 85 lire.

some hotels in the sultanahment are situated on slopes, so be careful if you are using a wheelchair or buggies.

rooftop dinner so you can enjoy meal/drink with blue mosque and hagia in the skyline

tea on the far side of Gulhane Park, great ocean views (food is ok, like eating in a greasyspoon)

Wow. The Old City is incredible. So is the old Asian part of the central city. History, culture, incredible views, 11,000 restos, ferry or ride to Asia on a bridge. .
