“Hotel with everything”

Hotel Seraglio was in the old town of Istanbul close to the Blue Mosque and Cistern actually everything we wanted to see. Great location. From the moment we were picked up at the airport by shuttle arranged by the hotel to the moment we were dropped off to return home just a great experience. OUr room was on the main floor , with a courtyard at our disposal. Beautiful breakfast buffet , with made to order omelets daily. Fresh fruit, pastries. Tea from 5-7 every afternoon in the Bistro. Staff was VERY helpful and friendly. Probably the nicest hotel I've stayed in in Europe other than one arranged by a tour group.

I strongly recommend this boutique hotel. The service is GREAT! The location is ideal, walking distance to all the major sites and close to the Tram. The hotel is also immaculately clean and the rooms are a good size and very comfortable. It is a great value for the money. I would stay there again. The staff is very professional and speak English. Celal, Kana and Mehmet (front desk) were very nice and extremely helpful in helping us get around the city. You won't regret staying here and the breakfast is awesome!

Perfect location, literally walking distance from all the major attractions - Hagia Sophia, Blue Mosque but in the quieter, nicer part of Sultanahmet. We were so glad we found this hotel. The service was just brilliant from reccommendation for tours, restaurants etc. the staff could not be more helpful. Breakfast was also brilliant (you must try the local yoghurt and honey) and we could not fault the rooms, bed etc.
Great value for money - we'll definitely return to Istanbul and Hotel Seraglio again.

The six slender minarets of the Blue Mosque glow against the night. Sipping our complimentary bottle of Sarafin cabernet on the terrace of our room, we succumb to the view and forget the strains of travel. Also forgotten is our neatly piled luggage where Kenan, the Seraglio’s Front Office Manager had instructed his colleague to leave it while he gave us a welcoming overview spiced with apple tea.

Cagri Yilmaz converted his grandparents Ottoman home into this comfortable and perfectly-located 14 room boutique hotel. A seraglio refers to the female quarters of a Turkish palace, a prince’s small palace, or a grand Turkish house built around a courtyard. The Seraglio Hotel’s Blue Mosque Suite is fit for a prince. Near the stairway to the breakfast room, there’s a small courtyard garden. Down the stairs, eggs are cooked to order and complimented by fruits and pastries. The rear of the hotel faces a quiet street where one can sit in the open fronted café enjoying mezes with drinks before, after or instead of sight-seeing.

The Sultanahmet section of Istanbul, named for the Sultan Ahmet who built the Blue Mosque, is the center of the Old Istanbul. Travelers arriving on the Orient Express referred to it as ‘Stamboul’ (e.g., Graham Green’s “Stamboul Train”). The Seraglio is situated here amongst other small boutique hotels with a sprinkling of cafes and shops giving it a quiet urban neighborhood appeal. A short stroll takes you to many of the remarkable historical sights: the Aya Sofya, Blue Mosque, Byzantine Hippodrome, Basilica Cistern and the Topkai Palace where Peter Ustinov comically attempts to steal the Sultan’s emerald in the 1964 eponymous movie. A few more minutes takes you to the Grand Bazaar or either of two old hammams we visited where you can have your travel cares steamed and scrubbed away.

Kenan Saicelik, whose surname means ‘yellow steel’, is a man of steel in response to all requests. He made suggestions for tours, he booked our tours, he called airlines, he arranged our airport transfers, he told us when to go or not to go to various sights AND he saved our wine for us when we left it in our room fridge during a three day excursion. Kenan and his colleagues are helpful, courteous and a large part of the reason the Seraglio is a grand accommodation in Old Stamboul.

We stayed at hotel Seraglio for a week. Coming in the door we were met by a friendly, welcoming smile. The staff was so helpful and kind all through our stay, and made us feel at home. Breakfast was excellent - also served with big smiles. In the afternoon we were welcome to enjoy free coffe/tea and cakes. The area is the best we could wish for, quiet and nice, and close to all sights. Almost forgetting about the room, - it was a nice, newly decorated room with the possibility to sit on the veranda if we prefered. We did not as it was a bit chilly and raining. Bathroom was spacious and delicate. Sweey dreams in comfy beds.
No doubt, this is our place in istanbul!!!

We opted for the deluxe room which is twice the size of the standard room. It was so spacious and clean. The bathroom was new and cool-looking and spotless. The room contained this great wardrobe for people like me who don’t like to unpack and put things in drawers. It had a lower level for me to put my entire suitcase in and big cubbyholes for me to shove clothing and other stuff in. This way I could see right away where my stuff was. Not necessary for home use but perfect for hotel use.

Although it was in the touristy crowded Sultanahmet neighborhood, our hotel was off a side street and you could hear a pin drop at nighttime. The staff was extremely helpful and nice. The breakfasts were fantastic including custom omelets! This made a happy change from all the hard-boiled eggs I had been eating at other hotels.

Next time I am in Istanbul, I will definitely book here again. I have already recommended it to a friend who will be in Istanbul in December . (Deluxe double, #101)

We stayed for four nights in the Seraglio, which included free airport transfer. The hotel very good located for exploring Sultanahmet. Major attractions and tramway are in walking distance. We were not entirely happy with our room because it was on the somewhat noisy street side next to the elevator. This was no problem so we moved to a smaller room overlooking the courtyard. We had to go back to our initial room because we forgot some stuff. The front desk helped us time after time.

Breakfast is extensive, including warm and cold dishes, Turkish and more international fare.

The only downside is that the ventilation system is the bathroom humms 24/7 and that the rooms are smallish. The big plus is the friendly, helpfull and eloquent staff at the front desk.
