“Wonderful stay- thank you!”
Reviewed 16 April 2014

Everyone at hotel Amira was incredibly helpful, friendly, and genuinely seemed to want to make our stay as enjoyable as it could be. We couldn't have asked for better service.
Our room was lovely, the breakfast was more than plentiful, and afternoon tea was served everyday. There was free wifi which was a bonus. The roof terrace was a real luxury when the sun came out!
Location wise, the hotel is perfect- walking distance to all the main sites, and if you don't want to walk there is a taxi rank right by the hotel.
There is nothing negative I can say about this hotel, they clearly work exceptionally hard to give guests the best stay possible, so thank you for a wonderful stay!!

Although it is sometimes easier to get great service from a small family run hotel, it has never been my experience to have such amazing service from a larger hotel. This hotel is fantastic. The location is superb, it is minutes walk from the Blue Mosque and all of the other sites in the Old City. The room we stayed in was large, clean and pretty. The breakfast room of the hotel is beautiful and the breakfast spread was very good.

But what makes this hotel stand out in my mind is the service. Every single employee we encountered at this hotel had a smile on their face and went out of their way to assist you. I don't know who trained the staff at this hotel but that person should win an award.

Istanbul is a very busy and full on place. It was wonderful to have the comfort of this hotel and its superb staff to welcome you each day.

Take care do not stay in the rooms in the basement. I was given a corner room in in the basement. A great room but compromised view. You have cars parked in front of the window and you cant see anything. Room was very comfortable with good furnishings. Great area to be in. Breakfast was extraordinary. Staff very friendly and knowledgable and supportive.
Free evening hi tea from 4 pm to 6 pm is not to be missed.

Only 5 minutes walk from the main attractions of the old city.

Except for the basement room we got everything turned out to be great. But prices Euro 139 for this type of room are high. But I have checked elsewhere. Room prices are in that range in Istanbul for similar hotels. So no regrets.

Stayed for two nights in April 2014, and everything about our stay was great. The breakfast was acceptable (breakfast in Turkey is much different from in the US, but I still liked it), the room was clean, and we had no complaints. The hotel staff was very accommodating in finding us taxis (as well as providing directions to taxi drivers and informing us what the fare should be for our trips) and recommending restaurants, places to see, etc. They also gave us a mobile Wifi device to carry around Istanbul, which made finding our way around the city very easy.

We had a really nice stay in a suite at Hotel Amira. The suite had a balcony with a great view. We booked the romance package which included wine, chocolate fondu and rose petals on the bed. Also included early check-in and airport transfer which were very handy. The breakfast selection is very good, lots of breads, jams, fruit, yoghurt, eggs, juices etc. The staff were very friendly. We each had a signature massage which I would highly recommend. We also booked the wellness center for a spa. They sell tokens for the tram which was really handy. Location is convenient, less than 10min walk to the Hippodrome/Blue Mosque area, about 15mins to Hagia Sophia. This was a lovely place to stay and I would definitely stay there again.

Room Tip: The suite was great, the same as a Deluxe I think, but with a balcony with a nice view and a larger...

I cannot praise this Hotel any more highly. It is well presented, rooms are decorated to a high standard and the staff offer excellent service. So what you may think, thousands of Hotels are like this. So, the reasons:

1. when we arrived the manager gave us a drink and spent 45 minutes explaining the sites and benefits of Istanbul

2. i gave my partner a birthday card and upon seeing this, when we returned to our room, we ad chocolate fondue and strawberries

3. afternoon tea is served on a complimentary basis daily

these small items enhance this Hotel experience and when added to my opening comments and the fact it is 400m from the Blue Mosque, why would you not stary here?

We had a very enjoyable 8 nights in the Hotel Amira.

This family owned hotel, which is just four years old, is actually two former residential buildings which have been cleverly joined together under one roof with a spiral staircase linking the two buildings. There is a lift, but only in one building, so to get from the lift on one floor to the same floor in the other building you have to go up and down a short flight of reasonably steep stairs. If you have any mobility issues make sure you ask for a room in the building which houses the lift. We were originally placed in the other wing, but were able to be moved once we realised the problem.

We ended up in Room 403, which is a corner room with a great balcony (big enough for a table and two chairs) looking out to the west over the Kucuk Ayasofya to the Sea of Mamara.

Our room was stylishly decorated, with a very comfortable bed and excellent bathroom with a choice of showers over a spa bath. There is plenty of bottled water provided in the room, with top ups freely handed out at breakfast if required.

On arrival we were given a very handy map and a briefing. There is complimentary afternoon tea each day from 4pm to 6pm, and an excellent roof terrace for sundowners. You can also buy tram tokens at reception, and cash in what you don’t use.

Like many other reviewers, what made our stay here memorable was the great attitude of the entire staff - from the guys on the front door, the reception staff, the breakfast and cleaning staff - all friendly and very helpful. It would be unfair to single any individual out, as they were all terrific, with a customer service ethic that sets them apart. Nothing was too much trouble.

For example, the usually solid Wi-Fi connection in our room was playing up one evening. We had two visits from the Duty Manager, and when he couldn’t get it working he reappeared with a mobile Wi-Fi router for our use.

It’s difficult to find much amiss with this hotel. It is on a corner which is reasonably busy during the day, with a bit of car tooting, and the tour buses turning to make their way up to the Blue Mosque, but the sound insulation is very good and the road is mostly quiet at night. You might need earplugs though if you are a light sleeper who wants to sleep through the early morning call to prayer. There are some pavement works going on outside the hotel at present that makes the front area a bit untidy but they will hopefully be completed soon now that the municipal elections are over.

We didn’t use their laundry service, which was very expensive (e.g. 2 Euro for a pair of socks) or their airport transfer, which at 35 Euro was 15 Euro more than the standard rate for other private transfers to Ataturk Airport (there’s also a 5 Euro per person airport shuttle available in the streets nearby).

While the breakfast had a wide choice of scrambled eggs, hardboiled eggs, sausage, fruit, cereals and pastries even it might become a bit repetitious for long stay guests. The Turkish salad options, which change daily, and the good range of jams are worth exploring.

Overall we’d highly recommend this hotel. They truly deserve their high ranking on Trip Advisor.

Room Tip: Get a room in the building with the lift, and ask for a balcony
