The hotel is well located even though the direct neighborhood is desolate and looks unsafe. However, the tram, the river boats and the Galata quarter, where you find lots of restaurants and boutiques are within walking distance.
There is a big street with much traffic in front of the hotel. Our room had view to the Golden horn and not to the street, so we could sleep quietly. The prayers in the morning begun round about at o'clock but they were not so close or so loud that they disturbed us (at least using earplugs).
We could feel some bedsprings but we get used of them. We asked to get a second blanket which was not a problem. The room was perfectly cleaned every day.
If you are taller than 1,90 m (6.23 feet) your head will touch the ceiling in the shower and your feeds will exceed the bed. The latter wasn't a problem for me since the bed was not surrounded by a frame.

The service tried probably its best but could be improved, above all by speaking better english. Btw. they don't speak german, french or spanish at all and their english seems to be limited to the basics, with one very good exception: a bilingual (turkish/german) girl who was very committed, kind and helpful by giving tourist information to everybody who asked her about during the breakfast hours. When she wasn't able to respond, she asked a collegue or searched on the internet with her mobile phone immediately. This is a big plus for the hotel.
We also liked that we got sandwiches the last day of our stay when we had to leave the hotel very early in the morning. Ok, these are only some details but these could make the difference to other hotels.
Back to the improvable service: when we came to have dinner we asked a table at the window. There were still plenty of free tables, only one table was reserved, but the waiter wanted to give us a table at the corridor because the free table at the window I wanted was for 4 persons. I suggested to replace the four-place-table by a two-place-table but this was too much work for the waiter so he "allowed" us to take place at the four-place-table eventually.
Almost the rest of the tables stayed empty during our dinner.
We rapidly ordered beverages, starters and main dishes. The waiter didn't understand the name of the meal written in their menu in english or german so we had to search its turkish counterpart. The menu has only a few meals that the waiter should know at least in english.
The waiting time between starter and main dish was 50 minutes! That's unacceptable. If one orders a starter, I expect to have the main dish nearly without waiting time because it can be prepared it while we are eating the starters.
They forgot to serve bread even when I asked. They served so few bread that they had to return 3 or 4 times after having called them. Only at the end they learned to look if we had still enough bread. Each time they served the lady after me. Is this normal in Turkey? The food is just average (at least for the price) but good in comparision to other turkish restaurants we've tried.

One day, another couple asked the receptionist how the public tranport ("Istanbulkart") works. Without a word he gave them a map of Istanbul! He eventually understood the question but instead to smile and to excuse he became rather bitter. Perhaps it's cultural but I prefer to get a smile than to see a bitter face. The welcome drink appeared quite strange in such a situation.

Internet WLAN access is unsecured (also when the reception tries to tell you the opposite). You have to open a web browser and type in your personal WLAN password. Every web page is "decorated" by advertising banners and links coming from their WLAN access point or internet provider. That slows down loading web pages and even if you use blockers it's quite annoying!

We liked very much the view from the roof terrace where we took our breakfast every day (of 7 days), which was varied and rich. A radio station which was not well tuned emitted lot of parasitic noise and was quite disturbing during breakfast. The waiter seemed to enjoy it nevertheless.

All in all we were happy with the hotel. I detailed the faux pas mainly in order to give the staff a chance to bring their quality of service to perfection.

This hotel room has a nice view of the city and sea. Staffs are very freindly and helpful. Welcome drink was very delicious. They have a huge range of breakfast items. We stayed for 2 nights and enjoyed a lot. We will definitely choose this hotel for staying in Istanbul next time.

We had a pleasant stay in Istanbul and Istanbul Golden City Hotel was really excellent. The welcome and the service is impeccable, the breakfast was a moment of pure pleasure, with a magnificent view of the historic center. Thank you to the staff, and a wink to Ali from the reception, who prepared our departure with great care. This hotel is recommended ...

Rachid, his wife and their baby Maher (from France).

Hotel is located in business district of the golden horn. However, a new metro stop is open, Halic, which is always good when trying to get around a large city like Istanbul. You have a metro stop on one end of the street and a tram stop on the other end of the street, so inter city travel is no problem. Rooms are good, clean and modern. The view from the breakfast buffet in the restaurant is fantastic, it is overlooking the golden horn. Was met with a welcome drink upon arrival and was given a lot of advise on where to go and how to get there from front desk. Overall, a good choice for a traveler.

Room Tip: Higher floor are better for view and away from street noise.

I want to say the hotel is perfect for the price. Me and my friends arrived early about 10 oclock and the manager Ali told us that our room is already ready and also presented us free breakfast too!
They also upgraded our room from standandard to higher level.
It eas a pleasent place to stay and we enjoyed hotel resturant's kebabs too. If I come back to istanbul I will definately be in this hotel again.
