“Perfect location and staff!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 17 September 2013

The location I the old city is close too perfect. You really feel like you are part of the city...not just an observer. The staff is very friendly and helpful. The decor is charming...breakfast was great. Definitely will visit again!

Gorgeous, little gem of a hotel, tucked behind the Blue Mosque. It has only 6 rooms but they are spacious and full of character. Very helpful staff and very good breakfast. Walking distance to the tram which takes you to the Spice Market and Galata Bridge. Also walking distance to Hippodrome, Blue Mosque, Hagia Sophia and Topkia Palace. Only negative - very steep stairs up ;to the rooms, however the staff eagerly take you bags to your room.

This little gem only metres from the Blue Mosque is a excellent place for a few nights to explore the Sultanahmet area.
The staff were very friendly and Nothing was a problem including grabbing a sandwich and a tonic water from the nearby shop for a weary traveler.
The room was clean ,well appointed and - free WiFi ,included in the room price was a excellent breakfast .
Special mention to Cafer and Ufuk the front office managers for there hospitality .
Caution - extra care taken when using the steep stairway to the rooms.
Highly recommended .

You’d think being rated #57 out of 830 hotels in Istanbul on TripAdvisor would be high enough, but Hotel Djem deserves that rank and even higher. Located on a sort of winding back road, you might at first think, OMG, how did I end up in Detroit? But just walk 100 feet up and you're in the Hippodrome, and with just a few more steps, you're near the Arabian Nights splendor of the Blue Mosque and the Aya Sophia .

My immediate impression of the hotel when we arrived about 10pm was equal parts stylish and homey. You walk into a comfortable lobby with chairs done in a Turkish motif, walls covered in quirky art, and mounted headwear flanking the marble steps leading up to the rooms. (There is no elevator going to the upper two floors, but staff will gladly help with carting your luggage up and bringing it down.)

Our room on the top floor, #5, was elegant and spacious. The door and its etched-word exterior lead to an interior equally striking: a surprisingly large space with a separate bedroom, bath, and vestibule. In the vestibule was a large, 3-door armoire with 5 shelves and a safe.

The bedroom was roomy with two large windows overlooking the street and allowing in so much sunshine, you’ll reach for your sunblock. There was a TV, desk, mini-bar, remote-controlled ac/fan, two nightstands, a duo of bedside lights built into the wall, two outlets total at head height by the bed. Speaking of the bed, it was large and comfy, with a cool headboard sporting the design of a mini-caftan on it. Two lux Turkish rugs enlivened the wooden floors in the bedroom and vestibule.

The bathroom was a 6-by-10 haven with a tub/shower and superb water pressure. The floor space was enough for the two of us to spread out our Walgreen’s worth of toiletries, but the cabinets over the sink were by themselves large enough for the job. Unlike many hotels which parcel out just enough toiletries for one day, Djem stocks a supply that could let you outlast a zombie apocalypse: the cabinets were full of extra shower gels, shampoo, conditioners, and containers of make-up removal pads, Q-tips, shoe polishers, shower caps, and emery boards. Having an actual fan in the bathroom- a rare occurrence in my experience- allowed us to shower without building up London-levels of fog.

Breakfast on the main floor isn't on a windswept rooftop terrace common in the city, but it is comfortable and pleasant. Art-nouveau light fixtures made of wrought iron hover overhead, while the walls show off a variety of antique pottery, maps, and textile art. The morning fare included: four juices; three cereals; yogurt, plates of pastries; fresh pineapple, honeydew and cantaloupe melon; bananas; peaches; watermelon; and cold cuts as well as cheeses. The American-style coffee was excellent.

A word has to be said about the staff. They were always ready to offer help with anything –cabs, restaurant recommendations and reservations, taxis, maps, and more. All this, and it only cost about $145 per night. At this rate, Djem will soon be a gem as well known as the crown jewels.

The staff was really friendly and helped us a lot. We arrived at 6 am in the day of our stay and they let us use our room even though the check in is at 12 pm normally. The reception staff was very good always and very helpful.

The room was very nice and had a big bathroom.

The hotel is 10 m away from the Blue Mosque which was a big plus.

The only thing we were not happy with was the breakfast, but we know from other hotels in Istanbul that it is like this almost everywhere in this area.

The price/value ratio was very good and I would recommend this hotel to others.

Very cosy and atmospheric hotel. Conveniently close to a lot of monuments, where you can go on foot. Very helpful and kind staff, especially Cafer. If we visit Instabul again we will definitely choose this hotel.

We had a room for 3 adults on the 2nd floor overlooking the street. One queen and one single bed , just perfect for us. The staff were great from arrival to departure , helping with everything from luggage to sightseeing to restaurants. We will return to this hotel next time.
