The location of the hotel is excellent. About 500 meters from the Grand Bazaar and 200 meters from the tram station.

The rooftop restaurant/bar/terrace has some nice views and is a nice setting for breakfast.

The room we had (108 if im not mistaken) was very big and clean. The bathroom was also spotless and very modern with good shower pressure. The wifi worked almost uninterrupted which is a massive plus for hotels in Turkey. Most other places we stayed in had terrible wifi connections. The general manager (Elena) is great and very helpful.

Unfortunately, the positives end there for me.

For first, I am not sure why this hotel is branded as a "Boutique" hotel when it quite clearly, it isn't.

Although the room was very big and clean, the décor and setting was very bizarre. The worst for me for the air freshener in the room that was so intense it made me dizzy one evening. We had to open all the windows to get the smell out especially when going to sleep. This was not ideal (a) because the smell was intense and (b) the road outside was quite noisy so when the smell was gone, it was quite noisy to sleep.

Most of the staff spoke little or no English and the only recommendations we received for restaurants were tourist traps at most. (one of the restaurants they recommend at reception as apparently being the best for fish in Istanbul was branded as terrible by some Turkish friends and on the internet). Any other time we asked for information or advice I felt as if they where trying to scam us at every occasion. For example, out of curiosity, I asked at reception how much it would cost for a taxi to Ataturk airport from the hotel. It is worth noting that it is about 25mins by car without traffic and from having done the route in the past, this should cost no more than 40 lira. Reception told us that the price would be about 80 lira! When I questioned this, sighting the above example, they offered no explanation why we were quoted 80 lira. At this point I just said that we would make our own arrangements. It was only after speaking to the manager that they arranged a taxi transfer for us at a reasonable price and this only after they insisted we pay at reception rather than the driver.

The breakfast was average to poor. If there is one thing that a hotel must get right at breakfast, its the coffee. Some fresh coffee goes a long way for me. If you can't get the coffee right then (at worst) offer some hot warm and sachets of nescafe. The only available coffee was that from a run down machine and tasted exactly what you would have expected it to taste like - terrible. Although the breakfast included some cereal, there was no cold milk available which was incomprehensible to me. When we asked for cold milk, we only got hot milk that was available from the coffee machine and tasted like cardboard. We asked several time for milk but the staff at breakfast spoke very little English and we didn't get far. The food on offer at breakfast was not fresh and some of it was most likely the leftovers of the previous morning. The food was exactly the same on both mornings. The breakfast staff seemed completely uninterested and in their own worlds.

On the morning of our departure, a large area of the breakfast floor had flooded and was only noticed when one of the guests almost slipped on the floor. Once the staff realized this, their responses were very slow and they almost seemed uninterested. Most importantly, they did not even try to warn us or any of the other guests of the slippery/wet floor.

The price for a double room (Euro 120 per night for a double room) does not represent value for money. We stayed at other hotels in Istanbul before (both in Beyoglu & Sultanahmet) that were much nicer and cheaper than the Sky Kamer. We will not stay here again.

Stayed at the hotel from 29.01 to 02.04.2014 . All very well - cozy clean rooms ( only wish to hotel's management - add lighting) , cleaning every day , free wi-fi in the room, delicious fresh breakfasts, a restaurant with a terrace and view on the city , very friendly and welcoming staff. Separate huge thanks I want to say Elena Byrsanu , guests relation specialist, thanks to which I love Istanbul more. Very knowledgeable and competent specialist . Always offered the best option how to spend the day, what to see, where to eat and how to get, a very good knowledge of the city and local features . I could feel her love to the city and her work. Thank you!

Had a good stay at the hotel. It was our first time in Istanbul and we were apprehensive about what we were getting into. But the staff was friendly, cooperative and helpful. The hospitality manager met us at reception when we were checking in and offered to guide us for anything we needed. The rooms were clean and comfortable.

The location is absolutely amazing. Less than five minutes walk (on the same road) to the tram station and Grand bazaar and ten minutes walk (again on the same road) to the Blue Mosque and Haya Sofia. For those who are not very physically fit, the hotel is on the main road which is flat and not in one of the alleys that have a steep climb.

Two complaints I have:

1. The mirrors in the room are terrible for doing your makeup. They are dark and make you look all glamorous. But it was nightmare putting on makeup because I couldn't see anything in detail. It was looking at yourself with a glamour lens.

2. We have a rough check-out. Out flight was in the evening and the day before we called to ask if we could check-out around 4 pm. We were told we could. So the day of our departure we were relaxing in our room when at noon we got a call asking us when were we leaving. We tried to explain the arrangement and offered to pay for half a day's accommodation. But apparently there had been miscommunication the day before as the desk person's English was not very good and they had already rented the room out for the day. We were told, at 12.20 that we had to leave by one. As we were not packed or ready, needless to say it was a nightmare to vacate the room.

This last day's episode just cast a shadow on the whole experience. If I go back to Istanbul, I would still stay at this hotel but I will be wary of what they tell me and double and triple check it to make sure there isn't a miscommunication.

Room Tip: Room with windows in the alley might have less noise than the ones facing the front

central location in the old town of Istanbul, a bit hard to find tho. the entrance is off the main street and the sign is small. the cab driver took a while to find it even we got the actual address.

the location is just great. grand bazaard and tram station is just few mins walk away.
acoustic was excellent. very quiet in the room even the windows faces the main street.

the hotel room was clean and nice. a bit small. but i guess that usually the case of most hotel in the area. the bathroom is just tiny.
friendly helpful staffs however they dont speak English too well.
The restaurant on 5th floor - Nice breakfast, it was a nice place to have a cup of coffee and start the day.

Stayed there from Dec 11 till Dec 14 2013, hotel is quite nice in cleanliness and location, just first night they accommodated us in a room where the AC not working but immediately they moved us to another room which was a bit bigger. Hotel's rooms are average in size but can't complain, breakfast is good although you've limited varieties. Location is very good as it's like 5 min walk from the Grand Bazar bus & tram station which takes you to all parts of Istanbul city. As a regular traveller I recommend this hotel.
