Reviewed 23 February 2014

Top location - close to the Galata tower, walking distance to the Bosporus, around the corner from (also alternative) bars and restaurants in the back streets. The staff was super friendly, gave us tips of where to head to at night and the chef presented us proudly with his home-made fig jam :) Breakfast was good, if you crave a Latte instead of turkish tea then the milk foam won't disappoint. Our room was cozy small but clean. The bathroom is functional (Toilet & Shower are not separated apart from shower curtain). We'd choose this hotel again any time!

Room Tip: If you want a larger room I think you should ask for a room that is above the first floor.

If you are visiting Istanbul in October make sure that you take some warm clothes for the cold evenings. During the day the city has bright blue sky's teaming with warm sunshine but this soon changes come 6pm when night falls. Alas Galata Life has made very few allowances for autumnal nights. Rooms are provided with extra blankets at request which is necessary as there is no permanently fixed heating let alone temporary mobile heaters. It will therefore come as little surprise that the decor is a uniform clinical white wash constant throughout the building. Walls lack colourful paintings and floors are sadly missing faux tapestries commonly found in the grand bazar. The difference in room size is significant. A standard, the cheapest available, is very small with barely enough room for two singles. The family rooms are very spacious akin to a suit. There is a problem with drains. The bathroom door has to be kept closed to keep the smell out. The breakfast is basic. The location is excellent and the surrounding bohemian musical micro community is great to be a part of. The communal space could be so great to sit and hang out in if it was made more inviting, warm and cosy. In turn this would generate passing trade for tea and coffee and perhaps evening dinning. Such great potential not quite yet realised.

Galata Life is perfectly located in Istanbul and the value for money on that location is good but do not expect too much. The room I stayed in was small although the one opposite was bigger. Also the bathroom is really small and the room was not very clean. However, for that money you have a perfect place to sleep in Istanbul.
Staff is very friendly an breakfast good.

Room Tip: Try to pick one of the bigger rooms (up the stairs to the left).

Galata Life is in the perfect location to check out tourist attractions like the Galata Tower and Taksim Square, but is also great to just walk around and shop or go out at night. Since it's located over a small cafe/restaurant it has a great breakfast and has a lot of room to just hang around in the afternoon. The staff was so friendly and helpful! We had a few friends come and hang out in the afternoon and they brewed up fresh coffee and tea for us on the house.

Room Tip: The stairs are a bit windy and steep so maybe pick ones on the 2nd or 3rd floor.

The hotel is located in a beautiful and busy neighborhood, nearby Galata Tower and very close to shops and restaurants. I strongly recommend staying around this area regardless. Room and bathroom were super clean, though no cleaning service appeared throughout our 3-day stay. They might have assumed we should have asked for room to be cleaned, but there was no sign indicating that. Staff friendly and helpful with tips and directions around the city. Free wi-fi and breakfast, though the latter can be improved in quality and quantity by adding simple stuff like fruit, cereal, yogurt and omelets at very low additional cost to make it look a lot better. The fact breakfast is free will make customers appreciate the effort even more. The place has limited number of rooms, it shouldn't be hard to add some value to existing services.
Very positive impression overall though. I recommend it and would also come back.

I've stayed in a few different places in Istanbul and in terms of overall rating, GalataLife is the best one. It's location is great. So close to the tourist places, shopping areas, metro, and bus stations.
The rooms are spacious, there's a roof terrace and a dining area looking onto the street. The staff are so friendly and helpful. I had lunch here too and I enjoyed the food.
When I last visited Istanbul I called into the hotel cafe to have some Turkish tea and snacks.
Great value for money, I recommend it.

When my family came to visit me, we stayed at this hotel for four nights. We loved it! The breakfast is delicious (nutella, eggs, tomatoes, jam, toast and more- yum!), the rooms are spacious, the people working in the cafe downstairs are helpful and friendly and the location cannot be beat! The hotel did not have an elevator, so the man working at the desk carried our HEAVY luggage up three flights of stairs without even being asked. They stored our luggage at no additional charge for several nights while we traveled to other parts of Turkey and then carried it up to our room again when we returned- as I said before, amazing service! And finally, the price simply cannot be beat. I would recommend this hotel to anyone and would stay here again.
