“Worst hotel in two years of travelling”
Reviewed 13 October 2013 via mobile

1. Receptionist was more interested in looking at her screen than making eye contact. Once checked in, she buried her head in her screen, which I guess was out cue to go find our room.

2. Our room with so called sea views was more like a courtyard view looking towards the other side of the hotel with a glimpse of the sea to the side.

3. Noise proofing is horrendous. There is a nightclub on floor 12 with a licence until 4AM. We were on floor 10 and could not sleep until they switched off at 3.15AM. Upon complaining to reception we were told that the nightclub was not run by them and that this Hilton was a franchise. We were offered to move rooms at 3AM or have a 2pm checkout. Great. Reception tried to call the nightclub but they did not answer as they did not hear the phone ring.

4. After some sleep we arrived at breakfast at 10.55AM to be told it was now closed. Then after we kept walking were told that we had 5mins and to be quick.

5. No cutlery on the tables so a waiter was asked and he went for the cutlery drawer. In the meantime a Turkish guest also asked for cutlery and was promptly served before us. The excuse given was that he doesn't speak English.

In conclusion, stay in Sultanahmet like everyone else if you are non-Turkish and want to get some sleep and don't want to pay extra for a view of the hotel. It is a shame as the local area is great for nightlife.

Tip: If you arrive to Atatürk airport, you can take a short (10min.) taxi ride or a "Havataas" airport shuttle bus, and the first stop is Bakirköy ferry station. From Bakirköy it's a 20-30min. ferry trip straight to Kadiköy and you are virtually on the door steps (if there were door steps) of Doubletree Hilton Moda/Kadiköy. The shortest and easiest way to reach the hotel (but you need to do some research on the ferries and time tables etc. of course).
We stayed for 6 days and used a taxi once.

From Kadiköy, the Istanbul ferries take you everywhere. It's cheap, it's quick, it's fun, and the ferry station is 3-5min. walk from Doubletree Hilton in Kadiköy. That is the reason we found the location of this hotel so good.
The lovely Istanbul can be pretty damn exhausting. Every day when we returned to Kadiköy and Doubletree we felt like it was an oasis to rest at.

One thing. The views are great and you do see the Sultanahmet area, Hagia Sofia, the Blue Mosque etc. from the hotel, BUT it is relatively far away. You have good but not spectacular views of Istanbul. At night, it could almost be any big city skyline. Almost.

Room Tip: If you can't get a double bed via booking sites (Hotels, Booking.com etc.) you may get it by ask...

The hotel is good enough and if you are after Kadikoy area, then it is the best choice for sure.
There is the the metro, the ferry, the busses just outside of the hotel - so getting around is easy, and should you want to experience the local life of Istanbul as we did, then this is the place to stay. Plenty of restaurants, shops close by also. 3 days should be enough.

The hotel staff was very nice, be it at the reception or the very keen guy at the concierge's desk.
The rooms are quite small and the bathroom tiny and as it doesn't have a walk in shower you have to "climb" in the bathtub to shower, which we felt was very inconvenient. Everything was very clean and in a very good condition.
Breakfast had a good selection of bread, cold cuts, fruit, all sorts of eggs etc.
The location is quite convenient, although on the Asian side. To the ferry pier it's a mere 5 minutes walk with ferries to Eminönü (for Sirkeci/Spice Bazaar and Sultanahmet), Karaköy (for the Galata Tower) and Kabatas (for Taksim/Istiklal Street and Dolmabahce Palace). It's a very relaxing 15-20 minutes trip in the morning and you avoid the hectic Istanbul traffic. From all 3 destinations you have a tram connection.
I would not rate it a 5* hotel but give it an honest 4* rating. I would always come back.

My wife and I stayed at the DoubleTree Moda for 3 nights on the 13th -16th Sept, 2013. We stayed in a corner room with fantastic views of the Marmaris Sea, the Bosphorous and the Old town. The rooftop pool was open and generally quiet but we had little time to enjoy as we were very busy exploring Istanbul. The hotel is on the Asian side but a major Ferry port, Kadikoy, is very close and allows easy and quick access to a lot of Istanbul. We were converned at the distance from the Attaturk airport but a quick taxi to the nearby Fast ferry port at Bakirkoy and within 25 mins we were at Kadikoy. The hotel staff were very good and helpful and the breakfast was excellent. Will stay again.

Room Tip: The corner room is very good facint the Old town

Whether you stay for business or leisure, the DoubleTree By Hilton Moda is the perfect place. Ideally located, it offers a splendid view on the Bosphorus and the high quality of services offered are making a real difference.

Stayed with my husband for 4 nights and found the hotel to be in a really good location with the advantage of having valet parking ( no charge ), we had a hire car as we were going to the World Superbikes at the F1 circuit on the Asia side and hotel was perfect for this, a note of advice if driving allow a good bit more time for your journey as the roads are always busy no matter the time of day.
The hotel staff were all friendly and helpful with any request, room was clean and comfortable. We only ate once in the hotel and it was good although a bit pricey. The roof top pool/terrace bar was excellent with great views across the river and for sunsets. There are lots of restaurants and shops in all the streets beside the hotel.
We went across to the centre of Istanbul for 1 day and took the ferry which was 5 minutes walk from the hotel, it takes 15/20 minutes and costs 3 turkish lira each way, your then in a perfect location to see all the sights.
If you feel like a change from Turkish food I'd recommend the Red House Bistro in Kadikoy about 10 minutes walk from the hotel.
If I go back to Istanbul again this is where I'd stay.
