Description: Welcome to Albura Kathisma, a unique and beautiful Cafe & Restaurant located in the heart of historic Istanbul. In easy walking-distance of the Blue Mosque, Hagia Sofia and Topkapi Palace, our garden enters the mysterious Byzantine Palace that once stood here. Opened in 2005 in an old Ottoman family house where we are now, we offer cozy indoor and spacious outdoor seating, friendly and courteous service and, of course, delicious food, served all year round. Thanks to our success, Albura Kathisma has grown in recent years, but our passion stays the same: to provide our customers with the perfect experience of eating out in Istanbul. With a menu covering Turkish and International cuisine, we cater for a range of diets and tastes. Specialties include seafood and salads, traditional Turkish, delicious desserts, and vegetarian dishes. Our well-educated chefs and waiting personnel are happy to offer advice on your menu choices and personal amendments to dishes if requested. In 2012 we extended and updated our kitchen, also adding traditional elements: a large stone oven where we bake our own delicious fresh bread daily, and a charcoal grill to cook our selection of Turkish kebabs from different regions of the country -- a "gastronomic tour" for the kebab connoisseur! Open daily all-year round, including New Year, we are always happy to cater for groups, families with children, couples, individuals and celebration parties. We are honoured with all of the tripadvisor reviews you have written or are going to write. We read them all and are grateful to receive your comments, ratings and suggestions.

“The best food I had in Istanbul”
Reviewed 9 August 2012

I tried various restaurants in the Sultanahmet area, and Albura is the the best by a mile. We tried Fuego, Inbat, which had great views and service but lousy food, Faros, House of Medusa, and quite a few other forgettable places. So if you are in Istanbul you will truly enjoy Albura Kathisma. Let me tell you why, the food is excellent and eclectic. You can have great cocktails, the mojito was awesome, good wine selection, and the options for main course include Turkish dishes, Ottoman dishes, and also pasta dishes. The desert was ok. The service was average. The ambiance was excellent and the Byzantine Ruins in the back of the restaurant are amazing. Go, you will enjoy it overall.

“Very good restaurant!”
Reviewed 9 August 2012

Very good restaurant! We went there twise during our five days stay in Istanbul. All the food dishes we tried had something extra to them and the service was more than satisfying. Also a fun surprise with the roman palace hidden below the restaurant!

“Great food, great atmosphere, and great staff.”
Reviewed 8 August 2012

We stayed in Istanbul for 4 nights and visited this restaurant twice, we also saw other familiar faces night after night. The food is great, the decor is lovely and the staff are super friendly. Probably the only restaurant on this street where they don't 'harass' you to come inside. The restaurant also has a little cave underground museum that leads to another perfect restaurant.

“Great service - decent food”
Reviewed 5 August 2012

This is not a top 10 restaurant in tripadvisor for its food. If it is, it is because reviewers haven't ventured out of the old city. The food is decent - my terra cotta pot chicken was excellent, my wife's swordfish was very dry. The grape leaves were great, the mojitos were ok. In short a mixed experience on food. But, the service was some of the best we had in Turkey. Our waiter Mehmet was very cool, very attentive, but not on top of us. And, the excavation at the back of the restaurant is awesome. We would return but stick to a few plates.

“Second dinner of our 7-night stay”
Reviewed 4 August 2012

Oh dear it's not getting any better. In this restaurant as a precaution (because the tables near the street are tightly-packed), we picked a place in the less-cramped courtyard.
Unfortunately the owner, after taking our order, turned and collided with the waiter carrying a tray of drinks to another table thus showering my wife with sticky red drink! They were more concerned about cleaning the floor and arguing about whose fault it was than asking if her clothes/shoes were stained.
The food was very average except for the couscous which was made with pasta pearls - yuck!
It's was also 87TL for just starter and dessert - not good value and not very professional.
