We were really impressed with Esans. As the other reviews correctly point out, the staff go all out to assist you and to make your stay feel like home. They always offered us coffee when we returned from walking around Istanbul. We stayed over New Year's and they worked very hard to find us a restaurant that was not already booked, not to mention the kind offer of Turkish wine and snacks before our taxi arrived. The location is very central to Hagia Sophia, the Blue Mosque and Topkapi Palace, but also the tram stop which can take you across the Golden Horn to Beyoglu. The rooms were clean and quiet. I loved the Turkish flavour to the rooms with the paintings and glass mosaic lamps (romantic). We stayed five days so that it started to feel like home. I believe we were a bit sad to leave when we departed. I hope this hotel gets the attention it deserves. There are many others on nearby streets but this just had that extra personal touch.

It's an 8-room boutique hotel housed in a renovated mansion located at the historical old Sultanahmet. The location is strategic. It's within a short few minutes walk to Topkapi Palace and other major historical and cultural sights such as Hagia Sophia, the Blue Mosque and the Underground Cistern. The Grand Bazaar is not too close but still within a comfortable walking distance. The hotel is situated on a quiet street but only one street away from Akbiyik, a busy street full of restaurants, cafes and shops.

The receptionist Engin was totally delightful. He was friendly and helpful, and gave us good recommendations of places and restaurants to visit. The other staff were also pleasant to deal with.

The rooms were tastefully decorated. The room we stayed in for the 1st night was very small with very small bathroom. But then we got upgraded and the room was huge! The bathroom however was still small-ish. The rooftop terrace was bare. There were no tables, chairs and umbrellas. It's quite a pity because the view was very nice. It was however very hot around 38C at the time so probably it would not have been comfortable to hangout there anyway. One thing to be aware of, there is no elevator and the hotel goes up to 3 levels. So it's definitely not a place for the elderly or handicapped.

Breakfast was nice. You gotta have those freshly squeezed orange juice!

A few notes for women traveling in Istanbul. I was there with 2 other women and had quite a few unpleasant experiences while traveling there. Turkey is very much a male dominated society. While exploring Sultanahmet, we always saw strictly just men working at hotel reception, at restaurants, at shops. There were men everywhere and they tend to "chat you up" as you pass them on the streets. You will never walk in peace. And forget about asking for directions. They would think you are inviting them to accompany you. It does get quite bothersome. At the Grand Bazaar if you spend just a little more time looking at a vendor's merchandise and ask questions but end up not buying, they will scream insults at you publicly (literally!). It happened more than once. By the way the Grand Bazaar was a bit over rated. Very expensive! You can get exactly the same items for cheaper at stores right outside of the Grand Bazaar. We also took a tour bus (She Tours) to visit Bosphorus Straight and go on the Cable Car. There was a mishap with seating arrangements which was the fault of the tour company (there was 1 less seat for the number of people booked), and the tour guide (Ilirki Ulus) ended up screaming at a man and bore down on him to force his twin 6-year-ish old sons to occupy 1 seat when in fact the man did pay for both seats. The tour guide screamed at the man in front of his wife, his twin sons, his baby and the rest of the passengers in the bus. The man finally just relented but it definitely left a really bad taste in everyone's mouth. The man looked humiliated and I felt very sorry for him and his family.

So in summary, beautiful hotel, beautiful location but some not too beautiful experiences. It would do great justice for Esans Hotel to never recommend She Tours. I have just now read reviews of She Tours in tripadvisor.com and looks like our experience was not a one-off. I plan to also write a review about She Tours.

A lovely comfortable hotel only minutes from the main historical interest sites and the busy bustling old city. On arrival we were welcomed with offers of coffee, turkish delight and nuts, the reception even organised delivery of evening dinner from a nearby resturaunt as our arrival was very very late evening. Rooms are clean, comfortable and warm, the location of the hotel on a quiet side street was an added peaceful bonus. The lobby was similar to someone's living room with large TV (usually on BBC World or CNN), bookshelves with city guides and wifi internet/laptops for customer use. Seating was extremely comfortable and the gentle chirruping of the budgies or canaries ( I am not an expert) just added to the relaxing atmosphere. Breakfast was a super array of cold meats, jams, pastries and either scrambled or fried egg. Fresh orange or pomegranite juice was readily available.
I was amazed to step outside the hotel and see the walls of the Topkapi Palace and to walk 5 minutes and come to the Hagia Sofia - one of the main reasons for my visit. Everything I wanted to see and do was within a very short walking distance so hotel location was superb.
Overall the hotel, its staff and atmosphere added to a great holiday long weekend and I will certainly return as there is still much to do and se in the area.

Esans is a homely hotel, decorated in traditional Turkish style. Comfortable bedrooms, and on a quiet street so no city noise at night. Bliss!

The location is fantastic - adjacent to the boundary wall of the Topkapi Palace, so just a few minutes' walk to the entrance, and within 5 mins of Haghia Sophia and Blue Mosque too.

But the best thing about the hotel is the hospitality of the staff. Everyone was really welcoming and concerned to be of help... and THANK YOU again for the birthday cake on my son's birthday - it was a lovely surprise!

Room Tip: Superior rooms worth the extra cost for larger room

Excellent location, genuinely friendly staff, excellent breakfast, pretty rooms and fast wifi. That's all I can say about this beautiful newly built hotel. They offer a free pickup from the airport and %10 discount on cash payments.

Try Mustafa's fresh mixed orange-pomegranate juices in the mornings. absolutely refreshing!

Room Tip: Go for suites on level 3.

Like all reviews, we will not differ...

I may not agree with the # 13 rating but can conclude this was a comfortable little gem snugly settled in the very touristy Sultanhamet area.

we were committed an arrival transfer and were happy to see the driver waiting for us after a long flight. The drive to the hotel was about 30 minutes . we had an excellent price deal on the hotel and were graciously accorded an upgrade for one of the rooms ( we booked 3).

On arrival we were offered hazelnuts and tea/coffee ( a distinct Esans welcome hallmark) and were very graciously introduced to the hotel staff by Engin and Abdullah.

The hotel is walking distance to all the touristic sites of Topkapi Palace, Hagia Sophia, Blue Mosque, Sultanhamet square. The tram stop is also around 10-15 minutes walking and takes TL 2 for most tram stations.

The area around is dotted with lovely European styled restaurants and a dinner at one of these is highly recommended ( they did offer us group discounts for dinner being off peak season).

Breakfast is adequate to good though I would prefer to see more vegetarian options. They did however offer us a special vegetarian spinach borek ( veg spinach puff pastry) on one of our breakfasts.

Rooms were adequate size( The superior room was bigger). They also have a terrace on the 4th floor which is great venue for drinks with dinner.

Mustafa was a great help with the assistance and what stands out really is the personal touch that they bring into the dealing with clients and are happy to answer all your questions the best they can. regrettably with 5* hotels this is not something that you can experience .

So if you are looking for a good , warm and friendly hotel with great prices and close to everything .. this is the place to go.. Highly recommended ******.

They do true justice to Turkish hospitality. Tamom....
