We spent four nights in Esans hotel and had a very pleasant experience. The hotel provided a pickup service from the airport (EUR 30.-) and provides us with advice regarding restaurants and transport. The rooms are very nicely decorated, clean and with a nice view, and the roof terrace is great for apéros at sunset! Breakfast was ok but we found the hotel relatively expensive for what you get. Nevertheless, we had a pleasant stay and the hosts were very friendly!

If you want friendly, personal service this is the place to stay. Wonderful staff who were always very pleasant and helpful. Our twin room on the first floor was very spacious and we just loved the furnishings. Breakfast on the roof top terrace was a highlight for us. Great position - bars, restaurants and shops just around the corner and only a 5 minutes walk to the Blue Mosque. So close and handy to things but amazingly quiet at night for a good night's sleep. Would definitely stay here again.

Room Tip: Higher floors have a great view

A true hidden gem. In a great location, near to all the sights in Sultanahmet. The staff are friendly and helpful without being intrusive. Similar to a lot of historical properties in this area of town, there is no elevator, but unless you are very unsteady on your feet, this won't be an issue as the staff will happily carry the biggest of bags to the top floor for you! The rooms are very pretty, WiFi is free. Overall a wonderful place, that comes with a high recommendation from me.

Room Tip: The 3rd floor rooms are lovely.

Dear Valuable Guest,

Thank you very much for your feedback.

We are happy to hear that you are satisfied with your Istanbul visit. It is quite important for us.

Since our hotel is historical heritage building, during renovation we had to obey the original style. We do not have any lift in our Hotel however our staff definitely helps utmost. During check in or check out or even after your daily shopping, we will be happy to carry all your stuff to your room.

We look forward to welcoming you again in our Hotel.
Thank you.
Best Regards

Nice hotel but only 1 issue. there was no lift.

BUT there are so many other good things about this hotel. We got a free upgrade to their best room, The staff were brilliant and always ready to help.
Its location is perfect in the old town, 1min walk from the main street of restaurents and 5 mins walk from the palace.

they also have a great rooftop balcony also.

The Essans Hotel made us really happy after our visit to Istanbul. The room was spacious. The breakfast was much more than what we expect with many local things and some well known fruits and muesli,corns... Very tasty. The location is wonderful just couple of minutes walking to Saint Sophia and right next to Topkapi Palace. The staff doing their best to make your stay memorable. Even providing very early breakfast during our very early checkout. Definitely stay and come again.

The room was beautifully decorated as was the rest of the hotel. The staff were very friendly and helpful. Our room was very spacious and had everything we required, even tea/coffee making facilities which is a treat when abroad. The breakfast was a huge buffet with lots of choice. It was our honeymoon so we were given wine and a fruit basket which was a lovely touch. Our only issue was our upstairs neighbours were terribly noisy. It was a family with 4 kids running riot, we even had breakfast on the terrace as they were so unbelievably noisy. The parents didn't seem to have any control over them and it was just unfortunate we happened to be in the room below them. This isn't the hotel's fault as it would have put them in a very awkward position to say anything about it. Without the noisiest family on earth this would have been a perfect stay.

When we arrived at the Esans in the late evening, we were greeted cheerfully by the person on duty and our bags were swiftly unloaded and taken to our rooms while we checked in (a nicely painless process). We were all pretty tired so we asked where we could find a drink and a snack (up the hill and turn left) and following refreshments we called it a night.

Our room (we had two double rooms and a family room for our party of eight) was very nice, with a safe and a decent bed (which was on the hard side, but not unacceptably so). There were plenty of power sockets for our assorted consumer electronics, the air-con was sensibly placed (it was over the door, round the corner from the bed, so you didn't get an Arctic blast straight on you when in bed) and although it could get quite noisy outside thanks to there being a public car park over the road, closing the window soon blocked this out (and kept the air-con working efficiently).

Breakfast was varied; most mornings there were pancakes, and my staple of bread, cold meat and assorted nice cheeses kept me happy. There were two hot dishes each morning; one was scrambled egg with assorted additions such as herbs, spinach, etc, and the other varied day by day. Orange juice, tea and coffee were also plentiful.

The location was perfect for sight-seeing in the "old" part of the city (Sultanahmet). The walls of Topkapi Palace were a couple of minutes up the road, and it didn't take more than ten minutes or so to get to most of the bits we wanted to see (the harbour and Grand Bazaar were a bit further, but not overly so). There were also loads of places to eat in the vicinity, some better than others (but you'll always get that).

Finally, the Esans has a roof terrace; although there's not a bar up there, this wasn't a problem as we just took our own locally-bought beer, wine and munchies up there to sit around, chat and play board games whilst looking out over the water.

On departure, we could have paid our bill in a number of different currencies, with the conversion rate very fairly set at the official Internet rate for that day.

The Esans is, then, a really lovely little boutique-style hotel. It's in a lovely location, the staff couldn't be more helpful, and it's good value.

Room Tip: I gather that the ground floor can be a little noisy, so perhaps go for something higher up.
