Yusuf and Ekrem, from Basileus Hotel, went out of their way to make our stay in Istanbul as smooth as possible. Our 12 High School students had a fabulous time in the city and the hotel is ideally situated and the staff very friendly and helpful.

Located just south, down the hill from the Blue Mosque a 5 minute walk from the Hippodrome (uphill it might take a minute longer :-). The hotel is in an appartmnet building of the same age as the surrounding houses. restaurants cafe's are nearby, a little shop (for water coke or beer) is across the street. The location can't be faulted. The staff is very helpfull, they know the neighborhood and all the nice plaes in Istanbul a tourist should go to. They speak ok english so communication was no problem. We had room 112 on the ground floor which was spacious with a double and a single bed and plenty of room to stow your suitcases.
Since the hotel is in an older building, the soundproofing is not as in new buildings so you can hear the next room or the one above. It didn't bother us since it was not very loud and of course expected. Bathroom was OK , the shower seeming to be somewhat newer. In our room the toiletbowl was loose and the ventilator made some noise.
The beds were a bit hard for my taste.
the room had airconditioning.
the price we paid was 270 euro for 3 nights.

We stayed at this lovely boutique hotel in September 2012 and found it to be the most wonderful introduction to Istanbul. It is less than 5 minutes walk to the Blue Mosque and the Hippodrome, close to great restaurants and bars, and we just walked everywhere. Yusef, the manager was beyond helpful - he knows everything about Istanbul and helped us make the most of our time. He was determined that we should see the best of Istanbul. All of his advice was excellent, as was his English. The other staff were also wonderful, and the delicious omelettes ad buffet at breakfast were a great way to start the day. The rooms were large, comfortable and spotless. We will go back when we can, and I have recommended the Basileus to all of our friends. It is the best hotel we have stayed in for many years.

I agree with many of the comments already given. This is a very well located hotel with friendly and helpful staff and we were able to rely on their recommendations for local restaurants and sight seeing. The area can be quite noisy but the windows are efficient at blocking this out. There is a soft drink minibar, tea and coffee facilities and a safe in the rooms. I would recommend bringing your own hairdryer - the one supplied is one of those attached to the bathroom wall which is not easy to use if you wish to blowdry your hair.

Room Tip: The superior rooms are larger and have a seating area by the window.

We recently stayed at the Basileus arriving very tired after a long flight. What a great team.
Every attention given to every detail to make our stay a memorable one. The room was perfect but it was definitely the friendly help given by Youssef, Ekko and Omah which made our visit a memorable one. No question went unanswered and every help given

After looking at reviews on Tripadvisor, I chose this hotel and I am so glad I did! Ekrem and Yusuf responded quickly to my emails arranging for transportation from the airport and answering all my questions. The attention to detail and their hospitality was outstanding. When my plane was delayed, then a later plane had an unexpected stop because a fellow passenger had a heart attack, Ekrem and Yusuf contacted my wife for more information and made alternate arrangements for me. They made sure I wasn't stranded.

The Basileus is small, but very clean and comfortable. It is in a good location with many shops and restaurants close by. It is an excellent value, but again, the service is what will keep me coming back. I will go through Istanbul again in a couple of weeks and the Basileus is my hotel of choice.

After 4 nights at a business conference in the "new" city, my husband and I moved to this hotel for 3 nights on our own as tourists. What a difference, and what a delight! Room was spotless and well appointed, breakfast very good, and the staff enormously helpful. They told us about a nearby mosque and haman that we never would have found otherwise, and were always available to answer questions and assist. I would definitely stay there again and heartily recommend.
