This is the most delightful hotel I have ever stayed in. The owners are two extremely pleasant brothers who go out of their way to make sure you are comfortable and to make sure you enjoy Istanbul. They are full of advice and useful tips, they will organise trips or tours; they change money for you; organise adaptors and chargers for electronic equipment; organise phone cards and/or top ups; they will take you to a store to make sure you are able to purchase exactly what you need; they will even purchase tours or trips for you using their own credit cards and do it all for no extra fees at all. And they provide a free transfer from the airport to the hotel if you stay 3 or more nights!!!! They made sure we had a very early breakfast one day, as we had a 6.30am tour pickup - so at 0600 we were able to have a special breakfast. They make you feel like you are a family friend and they treat you with friendliness, courtesy and respect.
The room we stayed in was spacious enough with an ensuite bathroom and it was all IMPECCABLY clean. Linen was changed out every day, toiletries were provided and were good quality. There is free wifi, but if you have problems with that, then there is a hardwired computer in the lounge which you can use freely.
Breakfasts are buffet style with about 10 different choices for everything - cereal, fruit, yoghurts, meats and cheeses, breads and cakes, coffee, tea, juices, toast; eggs or omelettes are cooked to order - it is a sumptuous breakfast every morning.
The rates are ridiculously reasonable for the quality of service that you will receive. The location is only about 200metres from the Blue Mosque, and from there to the Spice Market it is about 30 minutes pleasant walk. The hotel only servis breakfast and does not have a restaurant for other meals, but there are plenty of little restaurants around the area of the hotel, from a 30 second walk to 10 minutes walk, where you can have lunch and/or dinner.
It is really a home away from home.
We would definitely stay there again when we return to Istanbul. Thank you Omar and Ekrem - you helped to make our stay so enjoyable.

The past reviews of this hotel are indeed true. For what you pay, the service is absolutely brilliant.
Hotel location: 10 minutes walk from Hagia Sophia (Aya Sofia)/Hippodrome/Sultanahmet tram station. They provide free transport from Ataturk Airport (if you book more than 3 days) but if you're coming from Sabiha Gokcen Airport, the cheapest & convenient way to get there is to take a coach (13TL/£4ish) to Taksim and then take a taxi for about 15TL/£5ish. Though if there are more than 4 people travelling, a taxi may be cheaper all the way as you can split the cost.
It's true that it is easy to get lost with the uphill and downhill little roads, but like anywhere in the world, once you've been there a couple of times, no issues at all. Anyone with an Apple product, I HIGHLY recommend you download 'Pocket Istanbul' - a FREE app that you can use to navigate around Istanbul - no way of getting lost! Won't use up data or anything either as it only uses GPRS technology. Just need wifi to download the app first, and then you're on you way. Anyway, I digress.
The hotel room - of a good size - I was on the first floor. The room was clean and welcoming and the maid did an amazing job every day, keeping the bedroom and the bathroom spotless.
Breakfast was good - though it was the same every day, but enough choice not to become too boring! Also, the chef makes you an omelette any way you choose which was good!
And now I come to the best bit about this hotel: the staff. My first mention must go to Omar who was absolutely top class. He basically planned our whole week there, with great suggestions of restaurants, hammams & other places to visit! Every single recommendation he made was great! Any questions we had, he always had an answer. Ekram also was very helpful! So thank you very much guys - you made Istanbul stand out from so many of the other places I visited. If anyone is thinking whether they should stay here or not, then I would highly recommend the hotel and the staff! Always happy to help!

You book a hotel and you expect value for money. At the BASILEUS Hotel you get this without saying. But you get much more. As soon as you enter the house you feel like being with friends. Helpful day and night, smiling whenever you see each other. All the tips on good restaurants, hamams, must sees were 100% good places. Organizing taxis, a show or simply giving you a ride when by coincidence they have the same direction, its always charming.

Our room had a nice view over to the little Hagia Sophia Mosque to the sea, it was nicely furnished, very clean, good beds, free water and soft drink, good breakfast, delicious home made pastry in the afternoon, what else do you need?

Istanbul was by all means a great discovery. The historical monuments are overhelming but most important was the kindness of the people of which Omar, Ekrem and all others at the hotel made it an unforgettable stay.

thank you so much

We booked the hotel based on the reviews on TA and were very happy with it. The personalized service is so hard to beat as compared to the other hotels. Would definitely return. The only downside is it is quite easy to get lost around the area, but no big deal and it gives you a chance to explore!

We booked this hotel for it's price and proximity to sites for our 36 hour layover from Rome. If we would have known what an amazing time we would have we would have stayed a few days longer. The Basileus has the BEST customer service we've experienced in a long time. They helped us plan our itinerary to maximize our short time here and recommended a great restaurant for dinner. Stay here if you want a very nice hotel with good amenities, great breakfast included, and a really lovely personable staff.

We arrived in Istanbul on a cold rainy November evening.
A Turkish smile beamed at us “Welcome to Basileus Hotel. Would you like some tea, coffee or a light snack”?
Omar offers us a nicely arranged tray of cakes and cookies. “Definitely” we say.
Thus began, a wonderful five-night stay for our Thanksgiving holiday in Turkey.
As our hands were warmed by the tea, and taste buds delighted by the cakes Omar details the best of everything – best places to exchange money, best routes to maximize our touring of Istanbul, closest restaurants for a quick dinner etc.
The reviews were right. These guys – Omar and his brother Ekrem – love being in the hotel business and love taking care of their guests.
Check-in is a breeze, suitcases are dropped in our room, a quick shower, then we are out on the town.
We remark to each other, “that really was one of the most personalized check-ins
we have ever experienced”. We wonder, “can it get any better”? It does. Free Wi-Fi, the breakfast buffet…more personalized attention.
Basileus Hotel is not the 5* Ritz Carlton. It is, however, a family run business in a hard to beat location with 5* service.
As we depart, Omar sees us off like friends. “If we at Basileus can do anything for you in the future, please let us know”. We will.
During our next trip to Istanbul, without question, you have our business again.

Pretty hard to express in words the feeling of warmness and the friendly atmosphere of this beautiful hotel. Just let Muharrem, Ekrem, Charlie and Omar help you, let them make you feel like home. Don't even bother yourself having doubts, enjoy this amazing city, have some good rest and a rich breakfast at the Basileus, and don't forget to spend some moments talking with the guys of the staff, they'll make you appreciate the warmness and kindness of their country and the beauty of this incredible city.
