Stayed here two nights in Istanbul.
Taxi from IST was about 40t+tip. It's a boutique hotel so you don't get a rooftop view of the mosque like some other places, but we didn't feel like we lost out (1.5/10 on the annoying scale). Room itself was facing backside of building, nothing special.

Location was fairly good (sultana met area, 7mins walk uphill to blue mosque , then hagia Sofia & topkapi palace). Pass by a farmers market on Wednesdays in high season.

Bathrooms worked. Moderate amount of space, clean beds, strong wifi internet, great breakfast every morning (omelettes to order, grrrreat).

The staff are particularly nice--gave us maps, directions, advice on where to go and what to avoid (ie. The may1 protests at taksim square), even called around to arrange a restaurant that would store our luggage on the kadikoy(Asia) side on our way to sabitha gockicen airport. This type of "how do we make our sightseeing + transportation happen" assistance really saved us on our final travel day.

We wish to repay their friendliness with a positive review here, and would recommend them to friends and family. We won't blindly endorse basileus for every situation , but It's priced about right for their amenities, and should be on your short list. Would be happy to answer any questions about our experiences with them as well.

We have stayed at several hotels in Istanbul during the last few years - bigger and similar sized, but this one is excellent for sightseeing Istanbul and the staff is ever so friendly and helpful.

Comparing the price with other hotels this one has the right price.

The room we had on the 2nd floor was cosy, clean and had nice furniture - a bit like feeling at home. The room was well equipped,- nice to be able to make your own coffee or tea in the room.
We also had a balcony on the front side. No panoramic view, but who needs that when you can have it a few minutes walk away.

WiFi worked fine. Bathroom was OK and looked very new. The bed was good for sleeping.

Breakfast was downstairs - buffet style, but the staff came to our table and asked if we wanted omelett, etc. Very good.

The hotel is located on a narrow street - 1 minutes walk from the Kucuk Hagia Sofia Church and 5 minutes walk to Sultanahmet area.

We stayed only one night on our way to south Turkey, but will book again when we are in Istanbul. Seeing so many guest-photos from the hotel on Tripadvisor, we do not add any more....

This was our first trip to Istanbul and Hotel Basilieus made it feel like a new home. All three brothers, as well as the staff, bend over backwards to make your stay perfect. The rooms are clean, modern, and comfortable. This is not a corporate hotel, it's a family run hotel. This means you're being taken into their home and treated as a valued guest. We will defintely return!

The hotel is located close to all attractions in the old city, it is a 5 minute walk to the blue mosque.
The family who run the hotel are very friendly, speak very good English & are very helpful arranging any activities, giving directions & arranging further transport requirements.
We stayed in a superior room, lots of space, cleaned every day with linen changed.
Noise wasn't any issue, the bed was a little hard but slept soundly none the less.
Internet worked well, no issues.
The call to prayer didn't wake us up
All in all an excellent hotel
Book you won' t be disappointed

Omar and his family do a great job running this hotel. The hotel is walking distance from all of Sultanahmet attractions and Omar, Ekrem and other family members made us feel like we were their family guest. They helped guide us with all the activities we wanted to do in the city and recommended great places to eat.

There is a small park about 100 meters or so away from the hotel and my kids loved to play there every evening. The park area also has a farmer's market every Wednesday afternoon where people sell fresh fruit and produce.

We first stayed at Basileus for 6 nights in March and were planning on staying at a different place in Istanbul before returning home in April. We liked this place so much, we booked our last three nights in Istanbul at Basileus too.

Please email the hotel if you do not find any availability for your travel dates on online booking sites. We almost stayed at a different hotel for our first six nights because we could not find any available rooms for our entire group at Basileus. I emailed the hotel and Omar let us know that they had no availability for one room for one of the nights. He booked some of us at a hotel across the street for one night and everything worked out well for us (I am so glad I emailed them instead of booking at a different hotel).

My kids loved them so much that they used to call them uncle Omar and uncle Ekrem and are already asking when can we go back to Turkey and meet them again.

Room Tip: You can request a room on the lobby floor if you are unable to climb stairs.

A very comfortable and friendly hotel. Perfect location for walking to all of the tourist locations. Our room was very clean and cosy with two armchairs, ideal for reading whilst having a complimentary cup of coffee after a day out. There are several very reasonably priced restaurants cose by. I would advise asking the hotel in advance to arrange a pickup from the airport on arrival, which cost us 20 euros in total, as it could be difficult to find the hotel using public transport and taxis may try to rip you off. Friendly and helpful owners.

My wife and I spent 3 nights in March, 2014 at the Basileus Hotel in Istanbul. We also arranged for a airport transfer with the hotel. We were very pleased with our choices. The transfer went very smoothly and the hotel was exactly what we expected. Though old and somewhat dated, the hotel was very clean and the complimentary breakfasts were quite tasty with a nice selection of items plus made to order egg dishes. The minibar was also stocked with complimentary water, sodas, and juices which were a welcome treat. And, the free WIFI was very reliable. The hotel is family owned and run and we found the staff, especially Omar and Effren, to be very cordial and helpful. We stayed at several other (mostly 5 star) hotels during our 3 weeks in Turkey but none made us feel as welcome as the Basileus. The location was especially nice as we were able to walk to virtually every major site in the old city including the Bazaar, the Galata Bridge and Tower, and especially Hagia Sophia and the Blue Mosque. If we are ever in Istanbul again we will pick the Hotel Basileus for its great value, location, and kind staff.
