This is beautifully decorated art deco style cafe. The atmosphere is sophisticated but casual.
Wonderful for a light meal, lunch or a little treat. Delicious baked goods and great coffee.
Definitely worth a visit whether you visit the museum or not.

The café in the new private Pera Museum (which is worth a visit just for its very nice museum design but which also has some very good collections) is one of the nicest places to have a tea or coffee, a small meal, to relax and hang out, also to visit friends of colleagues in the Beyoglu area of Istanbul. In fact, it is a world class café that would be a great place in London, New York or Cologne as well.

The café is extremely nicely furnished in a 1930s art deco style, with a historic grand piano in the middle and very comfrotable leather chairs. It is quiet and nice and very well climatized, but it is not a typical museum café - even if the context adds to the refinement. One can really switch off here. Istliklal Street is just one minute on foot away - cut through the passage along the one two-story pavillion-type building on the north side - but its hustle and bustle but also cheapness and ripoffery seem miles away. On the other hand, the formal pretentiousness of the close-by Pera Palace, where I was for lunch as well, is something else entirely - the Pera Museum Café is what the Pera Palace maybe once was, i.e. not a monument to former clientèle but a living place for good meetings. And that at less than a quarter of the price and at no lesser quality.

The service in the Pera Museum Café I found outstanding, top notch - very friendly, informed, courteous without being servile. The fresh sweets and pastries were absoluetly delicious and their selection of herbal teas is great. The menu includes great pasta dishes, the pasta is made semi-fresh for the café and you can order how you want it cooked and with what sauce. The museum website sub-site of the café has the menu in pdf.

A very enjoyable place! Not a monumet to the old cosmopolitan Pera of the Constantinople of yore, but the essence of what that Pera was, or also was - and a truly global yet very Turkish place. Highly recommended.

We stopped here on a cold, January Sunday for a quick lunch before visiting the museum. (You can get into the cafe without visiting the museum, by the way.) A friend and I shared the Pera Pumpkin Ravioli and a salad, and it was magnificent. The ravioli was buttery, filled with pumkin and sprinkled with chopped walnuts all in a very light cream sauce. We each had a glass of rose wine as well, and it cost us each around $17 including the tip. The waiter was attentive, and when we told him we were sharing, the kitchen split the entree and served it on separate plates.
