“A little gem”
Reviewed 6 August 2014

This hotel has become near and dear to my heart. Excellent location near historic/tourist sites in Sultanahmet and easy access by public transit tramline. Breakfast is served on the lovely rooftop terrace (but it's open 24 hr if you want to see a night view of the Blue Mosque).

We stayed one night before heading to other parts of Turkey. We liked it and we booked to stay again when we returned to Istanbul the following week.

Our first room was comically tiny - basically just a doorway, a bed, and a bathroom - but it was clean and comfortable. Our second room was smallish but normal for European standards.

Other reviews are accurate - staff knowledge of English was limited, no elevator. These didn't bother us. Our second room was facing the train line, and I wondered if it would bother us, but I didn't hear any trains. The air conditioner in our second room was pretty weak, but if we left it on consistency, the room got plenty cold.

Breakfast was fresh, good quality, and typical Turkish style. Staff were friendly. Wifi worked fine everywhere for us. Noise in the stairwell was easily audible in the rooms, so be wary if you're a light sleeper and be courteous if you're a lively guest.

Enjoyed our stay. Would go back. Did go back. Would go again.

This hotel was a gem. Not too expensive, but still very close to the Blue Mosque and Aya Sophia and many other tourist areas. The main plus points are the location and there are some really nice views that you can get from the terrace rooftop.

Pros -
- Location! Very close to major tourist attractions, shopping and food. Views from the rooftop terrace - it's also open 24 hours there so there's a free flow of tea and coffee there.
- Very nice staff, some did not speak such good English, but they were always happy to help if they could.

Cons -
- Aircon didn't work, warm air blew in. We informed the staff, and they said it was cool enough and that it was working. There was no change between 16 degrees and 26 degrees.
- The room we got was on the bottom floor and there was no view whatsoever, also it's close to the reception so it does get noisy when people go there. The window literally opened up to the hotels office room. So if we drew back the curtains, we could see out and the staff could see in.
- Bed was really soft.

I would stay here again, but as a tip, try to get rooms on the 2nd floor (but not higher since there are no lifts).

Room Tip: Try to get rooms on the 2nd floor but not higher since there are no lifts. Ground floor or below is...

We stayed a short week at this nice cosy hotel with perfect location in the old city and short walk to all major sights. Had very good breakfast at roof terrace with view of Blue Mosque on one side, other side view of Marmara Sea. Great! Our room was with view on the sea, clean and we slept very well in good beds. The staff is always present with a smile and nice words. We could always take a coffee or tea for free at the roof terrace when we wanted. We got every day clean towels and had slippers as gift. When we had to leave during the night to reach our flight they made us nice sandwishes for the trip. Highly recommended place and we will be back next time in lovely Istanbul!

Room Tip: Ask for room with view on the sea. Room was clean and was cleaned every day.

Small hotel in excellent old city location, within 10-15 minute walk from all major sights – Blue Mosque, Hagia Sofia, Topkapi Palase.
Very clean (I couldn’t get over just how nice the hallways smelled at all times!) and my room was very charming with lovely décor and a comfortable bed. The staff at this hotel is fantastic. They took the time to sit with me upon arrival, explaining everything about the hotel, the city and answering any questions I had. Breakfast room on the roof with terrace has excellent view on Blue Mosque from one side and Sea of Marmara from the other side. I highly recommend the fresh truth salad, it was amazing. Excellent service carried on through my entire stay right until the very moment they waved goodbye as my taxi pulled out upon leaving.
I would highly recommend Blue Tuana Hotel to anyone visiting this unique city.

My parents and I stayed in a triple room for 4 nights. Room was very small but it faced the Marmara sea and the view's beautiful!
Being an Ottoman style building (and so are the other buildings around the area), it has no lift. The highest floor (level 6) is the terrace where guests have complimentary breakfast with the beautiful view of the blue mosque at one side and the Marmara sea on the other side. Breakfast served is the same everyday.
We stayed on the 5th floor and had to climbed up and down the spiral stairs each time as there was no lift.
Room is very small, clean but cosy. There were many channels on tv but hardly any English channels.
Just a comment to the hotel staff: there were no hooks/handles in the toilet to hang towels/garments/etc. Perhaps you can look into this.
Hotel staffs were friendly and helpful.
Location is excellent!! Walking distance to blue mosque (10 minutes) and other touristy places like Hagia Sophia, Topkapi palace and grand bazaar.
There's a small convenient shop just opposite the hotel to buy water/biscuits/etc.
Would definitely recommend this place to others for its excellent location.

This hotel was good quality for the budget. It is in a very convenient location in the old city - close to the very popular tourist sites (Sofia Aya, the Cistern, Blue Mosque etc.) Our first room's blowdryer and phone did not work so they moved us to another room. The next room's bathroom did not have a door handle. The wifi did not work in the rooms and only really worked in the lobby. Small details.. but details do matter when you are vacationing! Overall, I enjoyed my stay here in this basic budget hotel. The views from the rooftop during breakfast are wonderful.
