when you are inside the bazaar your option are limited. you can always go to fez cafe for a salad but frankly they are mediocre, that is better for a coffee. havuzlu is crowded and busy but you can get a sit down hot meal and that is a nice thing. they also have a bathroom inside, which, as you'll see in the bazaar, is unusual and worth it. i love the tiny bazaar streets on that side of the bazaar anyway, some of the rarely seen gems are over there if you take the time to look. don't miss the small shops run by turkmen and afghans that sell jewelry and treasures made of felt, quite unusual stuff, all around there.

The chaos and pressure of shopping at the Grand Bazaar needs a lunchtime punctuation that the Havuzlu's friendly maitre d' enthusiastically offers. Don't expect to sit down with a menu and to think about prices, but go with the flow and take up the freshly produced dishes of the day and find them served to your table almost as soon you sit down. It's not cheap by Turkey standards, but the opportunity to sit down and fuel up in the world's oldest shopping centre is a must.

After a few hours in the wonderful Grand Bazaar we decided to stop into a lovely restaurant in the bazaar - Havuzlu. We chose our food and looked forward to another great dining experience in Istanbul. Unfortunately the lamb I ordered smelled and tasted "gamey" and was cold. The waiter graciously took it back and brought a soup that was tasteless and barely lukewarm. My dining partner had a chicken dish that was just "OK".
Very disappointing. I would not go there again.
The next day we stopped at a local "deli" - Degirmencioglu - that was the opposite of our Havuzlu experience. Hot delicious food obviously prepared that day - and half the price. For my money I'd go to Degirmencioglu (Address: Himaye-i Eftal SK. No. 9 Kalti Otopark Sk - Cagaloglu)

The Grand Bazaar is world renowned but Havuzlu Restaurant inside the bazaar is less well known.
We visited Istanbul for the third time recently but this time were recommended to visit the restaurant by a Turkish friend. Trading since 1959, Havuzlu is open for lunch only and serves Ottoman specialities. We made a reservation ahead of time and were greeted with warm hospitality on arrival. Our group chose a number of different dishes from a selection on display and all were excellent. The waiting staff were friendly and informative. We thoroughly enjoyed the lunch and lively atmosphere and would not hesitate to recommend Restaurant Havuzlu.

We were wandering about Gran Bazaar and we found this place. Their waiters are waiting pclients in its door. And at the beginning they seem very kind because they show you and explain each dish you can taste but, once you have seated they forget you. We ask for some salt and hey didn't bring it to us. Then, we ask for three coffees and the waiter only brought one. Finally, we surrendered and left it. About 15 euros per person (but we want a coffee!)
