Although the room was clean and comfortable, I will always remember Portus House for its service. Their staff is one of the best I have ever encountered in the hotel industry. They handled everything efficiently and went above and beyond at times. When there was trouble, the manager took care of everything for me. The breakfast was also pretty good. The bathroom, however, can use some cleaning since there was mold in our shower in the family room. Otherwise, if you are looking for superb service with comfortable rooms at a budget, look no further than the Portus House. On top of that, the location was great, but walking to Sultanahmet can take some time.

We stayed in this hotel as a group of friends/couples for a reunion.

Staff at the hotel were excellent, friendly and very helpful. The hotel was clean and provided an excellent breakfast every morning. Since it is located in an old renovated house, rooms are not very spacious, but that should not be a problem. Similarly we had a cheaper room and shared the bathroom with another couple, but that never caused any issues. Hotel staff helped us carry the luggage up the stairs which is greatly appreciated.

The best thing is the location of the hotel. It is in an up and coming neighbourhood in Istanbul where young people come out and enjoy some funky restaurants and bars. Even though these places are nearby, it is not a party neighbourhood so you can get a good night sleep.

This place is a great find in terms of value for money.

Portus house is a fantastic little venue. It's in a great location, with a small supermarket across the street and shops/cafés only a minutes walk away.
The room was clean, neat and had an AMAZING air conditioner in it.
Room service came through everyday, cleaned up our mess and left the room sparkling.
As we left early each day and came home late the only staff member we met was Murat, who works the nightshift.
Murat is what really made our stay, he's a great guy who was never too busy to stop and have a chat about whatever we wanted to discuss. He's friendly, smart and full of great travel ideas, and was quick to point us in the direction of the best sightseeing areas in Istanbul.
On our first morning we went for a tour of Gallipoli (6am start). Murat made us up some sandwiches to take with us on the bus in case we got hungry.
The complimentary breakfast each day is very nice, fresh bread, cheeses and spreads, with fresh tea or coffee provided.
A fantastic venue with fantastic staff.
I'll be staying there again on my next trip to Istanbul.

I've a room at Portus house without knowing much about it. It was a last-minute, almost random pick. All I can say is that I couldn't have been luckier.

The staff was super-friendly, the guesthouse is very nicely decorated, the location is great and the price is very, very reasonable. I highly recommend everyone to have breakfast at the guesthouse. It is nothing fancy. It is simple but good, and you will have the chance to chat with the staff about where to go and what to do during the day.

The neighbourhood around the hotel is very interesting, with lots of nice coffee shops and good restaurants. It is also walking distance to the Istanbul Modern museum, which I think is a must see.

Highly recommended and I hope to have a chance to come back.

Guest house with 10 rooms some with shared bathroom. Not hard to find, follow directions from their homepage. Located very close to cruise ports. Several very good restaurants in the neighborhood. Close to Galata Bridge. Our room number 0 was a large room with bathroom. Spotless clean and nicely decorated with a modern style. Very quiet and good air-condition. Breakfast is included served in the kitchen. Staff very friendly. Low rates, you have to pay cash, why 2014? If you want a clean nice guest house, low rate this is the place!

The Portus House is a great little hotel in an up and coming area. The staff are friendly, very helpful and always have a smile on their face. At a first glance the front may be a little deceiving but the little air conditioned rooms are all you need!! The hotel itself is very clean. The true highlight how ever is the overall location. Once out the front door to your left is a bunch of new cafés and bars hidden away. To your right and a 5 min walk away near the bridge is the metro and Tunnel train which takes you to an area known as Beyoglu. This is an amazing part of the city. Full of young people, cafés, bars and cool little shops. This district itself was the highlight of our stay!! For the price we could not have been happier with the Portus house and of course this amazing "bucket list" city!!!!

Portus house is wondeful! Istanbul is an amazing city & Portus House is in a great location, close to major city sites, yet in a more authentic, safe and quiet area that is not crowded with tourists. The room was nice and clean and well decorated and the shared bathrooms were not a problem at all. The staff at Portus House are marvellous. They all go out of there way to ensure that you have a great stay & time in their wonderful city. The breakfast room is cute and the complimentary breakfast is the perfect way to start the day! We were able to leave our luggage there on the day we checked out until the afternoon, tea and coffee was always available and we were provided with a city map & tips on what to do and see. We felt extremely well looked after and had a lovely stay. I definitely recommend staying at Portus House.
