We stayed at several hotels in Istanbul during our trip there in October 2012. The House Hotel Bosphorus was a wonderful experience: The room was stylish and very comfortable, and the hotel staff were exceptionally friendly and helpful, including the General Manager, who kindly took the trouble to introduce herself, and personally recommend restaurants and sights and arrange for reservations to be made. We really felt looked after. Ortakoy is a charming district, particularly on the waterfront, and it is good to stay a little bit away from the main tourist areas, but still be in a lively and convenient spot. We will definitely return to lstanbul and plan to stay at the House Hotel Bosphorus again.

We stayed for four nights at the House Hotel and enjoyed it very much. The location is perfect, with stunning views by day and night from the Bosphorus view rooms. The hotel staff were all very attentive and helpful. Breakfast was very good and we also enjoyed evening meals by the water at the House Cafe. The area buzzes at night and, as others have said, can be a bit noisy, but this and the morning call to prayer contributed to the atmosphere for us. Overall, a lovely stay.

We travelled around Turkey for our honeymoon and ended with a 2-night stay at this hotel. It was the perfect end to a wonderful holiday. When we arrived we were greeted with a glass of champagne and a very warm welcome from Bahar, the Manager. She upgraded us to a suite and we were sent complimentary wine and snacks as we settled into the room. Bahar also gave us really good advice about what to do in this area of Istanbul, as we had already explored the old town, and she sent us into young vibrant local areas which we would not have found without her direction. The hotel staff as a whole are quite young and very keen to please and assist you in any way they can. It was by far the best service we had during our stay in Turkey and on a par with SE Asian top hotels.

The actual hotel is beautiful. The rooms are on the small side as you would expect in a city but they are beautifully presented and the whole building is an attraction in itself. In fact, we took photos of the waterfront from our balcony and saw people taking photos of us!! The view is spectacular, especially at sunset when the colours become warm and the lights start to turn on around the Ortakoy mosque, on the bridge and over on the Asian side.
I would highly recommend this hotel if you have already explored Sultanahmet and want to see another side of Istanbul. The surrounding area and adjacent districts were absolutely buzzing and is not far from the old town by taxi as long as you time it right with the traffic.

For some people, the noise from the nearby bars and clubs would be a downside to this hotel, but for others this is an indication that you are in the heart of a lively, wealthy and young area of Istanbul. If you come aware of this as a possible issue I think you will be fine, as we could hear noise from Halloween celebrations in the bars nearby and it didn't keep us awake when we tried to sleep.

I would definitely choose this hotel if I were to visit Istanbul again and I highly recommend it to younger couples looking for a luxury romantic getaway!

Room Tip: It is definitely worth paying for a room with a view of the Bosphorus.

I stayed at the House Hotel in October 2012. I had amazing service and a very friendly staff. The room was very clean and comfortable. The view in Ortakoy was spectacular and it was nice to be in the center of the action.

The restuarant for the hotel is very good and service is great. The restaurant next to the hotel (looks like the hotel) is good but the service is awful.

The House Hotel Bosphorus was a great experience. In addition to the beautifully designed room, and balcony with a view over the Bosphorus, we were impressed by the excellent and friendly service, delicious breakfast buffet (with amazing views across the Bosphorus) and hands-on approach from the management. The hotel is attached to the House Café which has an imaginative menu and where you can take your apéritif, sitting at the edge of the water watching the ships go by. A perfect location and a real feeling of being taken care of. We have already recommended the hotel to friends and will return there on our next visit to Istanbul.

Room Tip: Take a room with Bosphorus view - well worth the extra money.

I didn't love this hotel. I'll start with the positives, it's a striking hotel in a really cool, happening part of town. Now for the negatives. We booked two nights at this hotel. On the first night, we were kept awake until around two by the untz untz - really loud music. Then, a few hours later at five AM the call to prayer started and it was really, really, really loud. So, I didn't sleep much. The second night I went to bed early, exhausted by the lack of sleep from the night before. At midnight I woke up, furiously itching. My boyfriend did, too. Even worse, he had hives all over his arm where it had been resting on the sheet. We were concerned (of course!) and ripped the bedding apart looking for signs of some kind of infestation. We found none, but were further worried by the number of holes in the sheets (maybe 15 holes, some as small as a dime, others bigger than a quarter.... Surprising in a luxury hotel under a year old. My sheets are four or five years old and don't have a single hole in them?) We started to worry that the hotel had deliberately cut the holes in the sheets to hide the tell tale signs of an infestation so we decided to check out. This wasn't a decision we took lightly given that we had to find another room at midnight and take a very expensive cab ride across the city.

Upon us checking out, the hotel conducted an exhaustive review of the bed and found no sign of any infestation. I believe them. However, they also refused to refund us our room which I think was a big mistake. I have no doubt that some cleaning chemical in the sheets was making us itch like crazy - something which must be so caustic that it causes their sheets to prematurely develop holes. Neither my boyfriend or I have ever had problems with an allergic reaction to bedding before. Given that we checked out at midnight, unable to sleep in our itchy, swiss cheese set of sheets, I think they should have graciously refunded us our room cost for the night.

Room Tip: Avoid the rooms with the caustic chemicals in the bedding

Dear Sanfrandlle,

Thank you so much for taking the time to share your experience at The House Hotel Bosphorus.

I would like to take this opportunity to address the issues you raised in your review.

As you have noticed, Ortakoy is one of the liveliest parts of Istanbul right on the Bosphorus and it has an authentic and vibrant feel. It is a popular attraction for locals and visitors therefore there is always action and subsequent noise around. The calls to prayer that you refer to come from the historical Ortakoy Mosque which is another landmark of Ortakoy just like our hotel. There is a significant amount of mosques in Istanbul and I am afraid there is no way one can -for lack of a better word- “avoid” calls to prayer. Since you also stayed in the Sultanahmet/Sirkeci area, which has numerous mosques throughout, you perhaps experienced the same discomfort?

As you also acknowledge in your posting, our pest control company, which performs monthly pest and hygiene control of our hotel, had done a thorough inspection of the premises and have found absolutely no infestations of any kind.

In terms of your allergic reaction to our bedding, we have never had such a case in the past so it is unusual. Nevertheless, feedback of all our guests is very important to us and we take each input seriously whether it is positive or negative. We shared your input with our laundry right away. Our sheets (custom-made 120 thread count) are washed on a daily basis unless otherwise requested. We have been open since June 2011 and considering the delicate nature of the fabric, we do encounter some wear & tear from time to time and discard such items.

Please feel free to contact me if there is anything you would like to discuss further.

Warm regards to San Francisco,

Bahar Karaca

Perfect in every way, including location, staff, atmosphere. The hotel is a wonderful retreat from the frenzy and non-stop activity throughout the rest of the city. It can be quite noisy at night but that's all part of the excitement of being in Istanbul.

Highlight of the day was breakfast overlooking the Bosphorus - we could have sat there all day. The website photo of the breakfast room doesn't do it justice.

A slight niggle on arrival was dealt with swiftly and extremely professionally and in fact we were upgraded to a penthouse suite which was exquisite. But a huge thank you must go to all the staff at the hotel who were so friendly and really couldn't have done more to make our stay so memorable.
