The House Hotel has so many virtues from its beautiful architecture to its location on the river, to its outstanding staff. If you like to experience a city by being "in" the culture its location in Ortakoy is bustling with locals day and night. Upon our arrival we were upgraded to a suite which was a wonderful surprise. The location is perfect because you can get to all of the many varied and wonderful neighborhoods within 1/2 hour. The hotel manager went out of her way to sit with us and suggest places to eat and shop, you don't get that at the Four Seasons! This hotel has a personal touch that you don't find in bigger places. The staff has an exceptional taste level and cannot do enough to make your experience wonderful.

Room Tip: definitely pick a view of the bosphorus if you can, its breathtaking.

The House Hotel Bosphorus is at the top of our list of outstanding hotel experiences. The setting is magical, right on the Bosphorus in a charming lively neighbourhood close enough to the sites but away from major tourist areas. It was such a treat to come home after busy days. This hotel has wonderful elegant character and we highly recommend the spacious deluxe suite with balcony and view. We loved waking up to sumptuous breaksfasts served in the chic, tasteful breakfast room with stunning views. But the true highlight was the service which is unparalleled. The manager and all the staff went out of their way each day to enhance our experiences in Istanbul. I would always choose to stay here.

My room was very small with no view of the Bosphorus. At first I was disappointed as I was expecting something bigger for the money I was paying. But I quickly realized that since I was going to be spending the whole day out exploring the magic of Istanbul, the room size was not not an issue at all. Bathroom was clean but fixtures not of a very good quality. Toilet seat cover kept getting dis-attached. Over all, however, the staff, especially those at morning reception, were very helpful. Most appreciated was their offer to weigh my suitcases before check out so as not to worry about excess baggage on ride out to airport.

The staff are exceptionally helpful. We found the hotel charming and far more interesting than staying in one of major chain hotels. We had the Penthouse Suite which is accurately described as having views over Ortekoy Mosque a partial view of the Bosphorus which we found spectacular. There is a decent sitting area with a sofa and two arm chairs by a large wide screen TV. We had thought we would use the balcony more which runs along two sides of the room but outside there is too much noise from the air conditioning units and extra fans in the neighbourhood to make it pleasant.

We found the area to be buzzy and full of restaurants and life. A tip : make sure you cross the main road and explore the pedestrianised part which is fascinating to wander around. My wife could hear some noise late in the night/early hours of Sunday but it was not loud enough to be a serious issue.

The House Boat does a one and two hour trip up the Bosphorus which turned out to be a motorboat with just us as passengers. It isn't cheap but it feels rather special.

The location is one of its benefits and one of its drawbacks. Following every guide book's advice we had the hotel call us a taxi to go to the Topkapi Palace. It took 45 minutes through standard, I.e. dreadful, traffic and we tipped out and the driver pointed out to the left. We got out thinking the area must be pedestrianised. No, we had been dumped. We managed to find a kind local lady who took us in the 20minute walk to the tram stop where we needed to take two stops on the tram. Check that you really are where you want to be, we were naive and believed the driver!!

The location is great for being outside the city and fabulous to wander around Ortekoy, but if you stay here take a taxi to the beginning of the tram line (15 lira to get there, 10 lira to get back). The trams are fast, cheap (3 lira) and air conditioned.

My one complaint is that we only had the opportunity to eat breakfast in the lounge on the first morning (great choice of food) and then there was a conference and we were obliged to eat in the House Cafe. The breakfast there is OK but not comparable to the Hotel's own.

Room Tip: Obviously with a view of the Bosphorus. The higher the better to escape noise.

Dear AlanJWells,

Thank you very much for taking the time to share your feedback about The House Hotel Bosphorus in such great detail. Your input as a seasoned travel is much appreciated.

We are thrilled to read your comments and are very happy you enjoyed your stay with us.
I would like to address a couple of points for prospect travelers as you raise some excellent ones.

Traffic in Istanbul is undoubtedly bad and unpredictable which makes matters worse. Our recommendation for our guests is to use public transportation as much as possible. As you also noted, taking the tram at Kabatas (start of the tram) is the best idea to go to the Old City. To come back to the hotel from the Old City, we suggest taking a public ferry from Eminonu (Spice Market). Since the pier is in front of hotel, this is such a convenient way of coming back to our area not to mention most pleasant. When it comes to taxis, we always advise our guests to get taxis from the station we work with (these taxis are more dependable and we can track them down if need be) even if it means having to wait for one longer.

As for your last point about breakfast, from time to time we close our Lounge for private events. I am truly sorry two consecutive events coincided with your stay. Going forward, we are rethinking our policy in this matter and will make some changes in order to prevent any in inconvenience to our guests so that they get to enjoy the breakfast experience at our Lounge.

It would be a pleasure to welcome you back to our hotel in the future.

Great stay at the Hotel Bosphorus - we were staying in Istanbul for a couple of days with our 8 month old daughter; they had a lovely baby bed ready for her and a little bathtub, and generally made every effort to ensure that we were comfortable.

Our suite had beautiful views on the river, and was modern yet cosy.

We made use of their "VIB" service (Very Important Baby) and booked babysitters in the evening. It was excellent.

The downstairs bar has excellent cocktails and is generally bustling. Ortakoy is a great neighborhood.

A bit noisy on Sat. night because of night club next door, but really not too much of an issue.

Room Tip: less noise on higher floors
