I really don't know how is it possibile this good judgement on tripadvisor for this terrible place. The location maybe is not too bad, but rooms are unconfortable (the bathroom wasn't clean and I'm not sure about the sheets) and the staff had been not so kind and friendly with us. In the hall there is an hard smell of cat's piss. I adore cats, and I can affirm that I'm not a squeamish person, but this is too much. We booked a room for two night but when we wake up after the first, the owner told us that he was in overbooking. He left our luggage in a downstairs that was really dirty and bad smelling. He gave back part of our money, he called a taxi and sent us in another hotel. Everything happened in our last day of holiday.......
This is totally unprofessional.
Ps: where are the rooms in the photos?

Stray cats is one of the best hostels ive ever stayed at!! Sedat, the owner, is super fun and makes you feel right at home, and is so much fun to talk to. He is helpful and generous and cool. As well, its a great location, near Taksim, and easy to get to everything you would want to see in Istanbul. There is a supermarket across the street and its near the tram station too. And any place that has lots of cats hanging around is always going to win my vote, haha. meowwwww!

I stayed in Stray Cat Hostel twice. Both visit was amazing. Stuff and owners are very heplful and nice people. Dormitory is cheap and clean so it's ideal for students. Greetings from Poland! Paulina

I stayed in room 8 on the 4th floor with my girlfriend. The room was clean and facing another building but not much outside noise entered. On the other hand, we could hear everything that was said in the room next to us. At least they were speaking Turkish so I have no idea what they were saying!
The bathroom in the hall was always clean and the shower had plenty of hot water.
The lobby smells likes cats (they are sometimes cats roaming the lobby and hallways) and during winter it is quite cold.
They have free internet, towels, and breakfast. plus 24hr reception.
The price is great and so is the location for exploring Taskim by night. If you are on a budget the hotel is perfect

We booked this hostel online before arriving because it one of the cheaper hostels available and as a cat lover, having stray cats around was a bonus. Unfortunately, in our two nights staying there I did not see a single stray cat, and only saw evidence of some cat food at the door outside and the stink of some cat litter downstairs below the reception. We stayed in a building next door to the lobby as it seems they've expanded. The first room we saw reeked of smoke and so we moved to the one next door. Rooms varied widely in size, but we were happy with our smaller one as it didn't smell and the sheets looked nicer (and fit the bed). The most memorable thing about this hostel was how big the bathrooms were: 2 shower stalls and 2 toilets for a floor with 4 rooms. Too bad the shower was just warm. Breakfast everyday was ok – as everyone describes, yogurt, bread, chocolate spread and olives. My only frustration was that it wasn't served until after 9am (sometimes 9:20) which is pretty late if you want to get a head start on sightseeing. All in all, it was a less than great stay. The staff were not friendly, the lobby and common area are quite small (and one morning had a group of people sleeping on all the couches). It was adequate though to sleep, cheap and so not a terrible choice. If we were to return to Istanbul, we'd likely look for a better option.
