I had an awesome time here!!
I stayed in Istanbul a few times before, and I started to find the Taksim area a bit overwhelming.. so this one, only a few minutes away from it, and close to the sea was perfect for me. (Lovely tea place right by sea just 2 minutes walk...sea breeze, fish & bread & good tea...yummmmm.)
The people working there are GREAT, they are not only friendly and helpful, but they have great stories...:)) (Thanks guys!! ). Very laid back & warm atmosphere, & good energies around.
This is definitely not the place for you if you don t like cats!! there is 4 here (& an other million around everywhere in Istanbul...)..they are very cool & friendly & they only hang out in the downstairs area, not in the rooms...
The rooms are tidy & clean with showers & toilets very close to each of them... (maybe slightly too simply decorated for my liking)

There is some really cool food places around there, all different...Turkish "home food" in lunch time, cafe with menu in English.. and also very local kebab places & chicken-rice man with his stand & a classic sweet shop on the corner & the famous fish & bread by the sea. Lovely tea place right by sea just 2 minutes walk...Bosphorus, sea breeze, good tea...yummmmm... Shops selling beers are just a few steps away & open till very late.

I see some people here complaining about the climb up to Taksim...i really didn t think it was so bad ..it s about 10 minutes MAX and only the last short bit is kind of steep... and come on, it s a bit of exercise & good for the butt :)) AND: walking DOWN with the Bosphorus in front of you is real fun.

If I really had to say something negative... it would be that "the cleaning lady always seems very grumpy".. but that would be kind of ridiculous .. :))

I will definitely come back & recommend it to all my friends.

This is an ideal place for travellers hoping to get their money's worth so they could focus on spendng quality time in Istanbul. You get a wholesome breakfast in the morning and get the latest music from the reception... This place is for the cool dude and dudettes that love travelling, cats, meeting new people and listening to music. Artists, business seekers, students, lovers....People of all walks visit stray cat on a 24hr basis so be sure to spend some time in the hang our space on the ground floor where the reception action happens. The service is professional and you definitely feel at home as soon you get there..................

I stayed there two times and that's definitely the place I'd stay at again next time I go to Istanbul! It has the perfect location for me - so close to Taksim, but a lot more quieter and the Bosphorus is just a few meters down the street. Stray Cat has a lovely atmosphere - I loved the common room, full of friendly people and nice paintings. The staff is always willing to help you out and they advised us the best bars and places to eat in our trip! There's a new kitchen with everything you might need and a nice free satiating breakfast.

I stayed there for a week, I have to admit that the staff are really polite and people are friendly but the room is very small, there is no air conditioner & it's not very clean. The location is good but my problem everyday was climbing up hill to taksim square...that was quite exhausting. This area is safe at night, and dominos pizza is in the next block. Breakfast was ok !

The location was great:easy to reach almost every place you want to visit. The stuff was always nice, friendly and helpful. The place is not very clean, but let's be realistic: if u have such demands (rich breakfast, perfect services ) then why don't u go to a 5* hotel ? Why do you go to Istanbul? To stay indoors or to go out and visit as much as you can? Personally, I don't care how clean a place is as long as it is decent and offers the basic necessities:hot/cold water, shower,WC,a bed. The place looks better than it should for its prices. Besides there is a breakfast included, which never happened to me before in a hostel. I must also say,I did not stay in many hostels :) . The breakfast was enough for me, but I don't eat too much, especially in the morning. There is water and coffee for free at any time.
Now, if u don't like cats and the dirt they leave behind, then u should go somewhere else. But,if u like cats and u can handle the fact that they are not like us,and cannot take showers every day, then you will survive!
Remember! You are there to visit one of the most interesting places in the world, a place where you won't be able to fully understand its civilization and traditions! You will miss all of these if you keep complainig about the things you do not like!

Stray cat hostel in a great location between taksim and the harbour of ferries that sail to the islands, going down just a bit down the street you can have a tea on the water and watch the magic of istanbul, the hostel is infront of dia supermarket , for anything you might need , and a Burek shop close by , If you dont know burek , check it out !! inside the hostel chill out ambient , playing some backgammon or pick up a book from the library.. wifi all over the place .. special area for smokers and drinkers, around there are several friendly and cute house cats you can play with , you have an open minded manager which I love, so you got cheap prices ,clean and colorful bed sheets, new facilities .. breakfast really nice with surprises and with fruits , you got coffee tea all the time for free ! I really met up with nice and special people from all over the world , stray cats the best hostel in city!! , enjoy ,

Very friendly staff and a great breakfast included, mostly young backpackers which suited us, there are cats everywhere in Istanbul, and a couple live in the hostel so if you don't like cats or are allergic it's not for you. Clean rooms and shared bathrooms which were not too bad. Over all,for the price it's worth it. And the location is great except for the hill! But to get to the shops and pubs you can't avoid it
