“Lovely quiet hotel”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 12 October 2011

Friendly staff. Very good location close to main sights on quiet street. Tastefully furnished compact, clean and comfortable rooms and bathrooms. Great breakfast, one of the best we've had with excellent fresh fruit, cheese, eggs, jams and homemade breads. Only one minor caveat for people who have mobility problems as there is no lift.

Great hotel staff. Always friendly and helpful. Nice and plentiful breakfast with the best figs I have ever eaten. The hotel is hidden away on a quiet side street, but within 10 minutes walk to the Topkapi, Hagia Sophia, Blue Mosque and the Bazaar. Nice and clean room with a good shower and air condition. We will be staying there next time when in Istanbul.

The Hotel Staff were very hospitable. Great location for the Blue Mosque and the Topkapı Palace. Good breakfast. The rooms were compact, clean and all the essentials that you would need for a weekend break.

Small hotel on a toplocation near Topkapi, Aya Sophia and Blue Moskee. The staff was really friendly and helpful. Lovely rooms, a little bit small but it's oke for a cititrip. The price is unbelievable as it has also a nice breakfast included.

We stayed in Minel Hotel for few days.It was very clean and neat. The most important thing was that the people were so nice and friendly.Breakfast was tasty and we could try the real Turkish meal in the morning. What my favorite was its well-designed room,it was really adorable. Moreover, the fascinating attractions are very close to Minl Hotel.I wish i could stay there again if i travel there again because the price is quite reasonable.

First the good points :
I think that Minel Hotel is basically a good choice for travellers to Istanbul who wants a nice clean room, friendly staff and reasonable prices.
The rooms are quite small and there is barely room for luggage, but it is my impression that this is the standard for hotels in Istanbul, so I won't hold that against them. And while being small, we did not find the room to be *too* small, it had an adequate size.
We liked the design of the rooms, very simple, but cosy, nice and functional, everything kept in white and Turquoise. The picture on the hotel's website are quite honest towards the actual appearance of the rooms (although with a wide-angle lens, the rooms always appear smaller in real life). We also very much appreciated the fact that the rooms were as clean as you can expect from a hotel (but see caveat below).
It is also a plus that the room was very quiet. Despite being located very centrally, we never had any trouble sleeping because of noise from traffic or people, even when sleeping with the window open.
Staff was friendly and always helpful and location of hotel (like most budget hotels in Istanbul) is excellent for sightseeing. I believe that price is (we payed 60 EUR/night/room for two people) is also acceptable.

Okay, now for a few points on why I cannot give a 5 star rating:
- While the rooms appeared to be clean, the daily cleaning was subpar. More than once did we find that although the cleaners had made our bed, the bedsheets had not been changed. I personally find that daily changing of bedsheets is part of what I pay for when I am in a hotel.
- The breakfast was adequate, but in my opinion, bit dull. Only one kind of bread, one kind of sausage, cucumbers, tomatoes, olives, some spreadable condiments, juice + coffee/tea. While it was enough for us, it was not the most impressive breakfast buffet I have seen.
- No rooftop terrace, this seems to be almost standard in this part of Istanbul, even the cheapest hostel you can find there will have one.
- Credit cards; While Minel Hotel does accept credit cards it seemed to be quite a battle to be allowed to pay with one. I imagine that they have several "benefits" from costumers paying in cash, however it is not so convenient for the costumers. When we asked to pay with credit card we were told that "yes, you *can* do that if you really want, but we much prefer if you would pay in cash". If they want guests to pay in cash, at least they ought to give some incitement for doing so, like 5% discount or such. Otherwise *I* have to pay for withdrawing in an atm.

In summary, we were satisfied with our stay at Minel Hotel. Daily cleaning could be improved a bit, but the cleanliness of the hotel in general was not a problem. We found 60 eur/room/night (two people) to big about the limit of our (student) budget, but if you are willing to pay this price (cheaper outside of high season I believe), Minel hotel is a good choice for you Istanbul trip.

Tip: Do not ask the staff at Minel hotel about recommendations for dinner. They will direct you to a nearby restaurant which in my opinion is sub-standard. The food was acceptable but by no means great, especially not compared to the price which was way, way, way to high. My guess is that they receive some kind of commission for their recommendations. You are better of to go explore on your own, there are no shortage of good and cheap food in Istanbul and you can easily find something which is much better and much cheaper than what Minel Hotel are recommending
