“location and cosy!!”
Reviewed 15 January 2014

The Minel hotel is somewhere between a hostel and a hotel.
There's private rooms, but they are small. This is reflected in the price. Do not expect the Hilton!

Having said that, the location is absolutely amazing. 1 minute walk to the tram lines and then connections to the underground are perfect.
You are also a beautiful 5 minute walk from the square which adorns Hagia Sophia and the Blue Mosque. This is a wonderful area of Istanbul.
There are lots of nice shops, restaurants and things to see and do everywhere.
The basilica cistern opposite the square is also an amazingly cool little gem to stick your head into.

The service at Minel was tremendous. Ezra and Mehmet were very helpful in all regards. The only problem was having to pay cash at the end due to their machine being down, but we just got more Euros out at the next city, so would only be a problem if you didn't have the $ on you (maybe ask the day before etc).
The rooms are cosy, enough space for a bed, bags, shower and toilet. Clean and fine. Istanbul is a city where you probably aren't going to be spending much time in your hotel room, but more out enjoying the great city!!

Excellent location - minutes away from Gulhane Tram station (near Topkapi Palace). Also close to Hagia Sophia and Blue Mosque. Arrived 10 hours late (7 due to flight and 3 due to lost luggage). Was immediately made at home by the friendly and helpful staff. Mehmet, Esra, Mevlut and Ozan were all extremely helpful. Breakfast was delicious. The pricing is very reasonable and rooms are cosy. Was offered tea / coffee practically every time I walked in !

Would love to stay at this hotel again.

I can't recommend this hotel highly enough for a 1st trip to Istanbul. It is literally across the street from the entrance to Gulhane Park (Topkapi Palace and the Archeology Museum) and a block from the Hagia Sofia and the Blue Mosque. It is right on the tramline that goes to the Grand Bazaar in one direction and the ferries and Beyoglu in the other. The price cannot be beat, the rooms are clean, the plumbing is modern, the breakfast is fantastic, and the staff go out of their way to make everything perfect. The only caveat I would have would be for large-size people or folks who can't manage a couple of flights of stairs -- the rooms are quite small, the bathroom could be unmanageable for big-and-tall types, and there is no elevator.

Room Tip: The hotel faces an alley in the front and the main road in the back, so rooms in the rear will be no...

If you're staying in Istanbul, you can't beat the service, location, price & mouth watering gourmet breakfast buffet offered at the Minel. Sitting steps from the Topkapi Palace, this small (I believe there are only 8 or 9 rooms), very modern, very clean & reasonably priced hotel is a real find. The english speaking staff makes you feel like you're part of the family & invites you to share a tea, coffee & sweet treat every night with them. It is a bit noisy. We were on the 2nd floor & could hear the conversations of everyone coming in the door for the night, but this is a very minor flaw & can be eliminated with a cheap pair of earplugs. But I would definitely stay here again. If I had brought earplugs this would have been a 5 star review.
