“Great Location, friendly staff”
Reviewed 9 September 2012

We stayed here for 2 nights this week (two australian girls). First time in Istanbul and it was a great location. I took the metro/tram from the airport to the hostel and the directions were very handy. My cousin booked a transfer throu the hostel as she got in at 8pm and she had no problems either.
Janna was great with our booking (I had booked the wrong date but she was able to accommodate us and look after the change in the airport transfer -oops).

We were able to walk everywhere - Sultanahmet, Taksim Square and everywhere in between.

The bunk beds were pretty squeaky but there was air on and wireless in the rooms and a great rooftop deck if you wanted a drink with the other backpackers. Breakfast was pretty simple but we were able to hit up the coffee shop next door for a latte/cappuccino.

Would recommend this place for young travelers.

Room Tip: We were in a share dorm (8pax). the rooms all have large luggage lockers and air on.

PROS: Roof terrace that draws just about everyone to hang out in the evening; owner organizes late evening trips to Taksim bars; massive lockers; decent bathrooms that always have hot water; quiet non-touristy neighborhood near some really nice coffee shops, the Tophane tram stop and the Karakoy ferry; cold a/c in the rooms; decent food to order if you're feeling too lazy to leave in the evening.

CONS: No kitchen for guest use. Breakfast is hilariously small (one morning we remarked on our good fortune when we received three olives on our plate instead of the usual two) and the breakfast room on the roof is stifling hot (please add a fan!). When we were there, the top floor bathroom plumbing was majorly leaking into through the ceiling of bathroom below it, to the point where the paint was peeling off the ceiling in huge strips. Someone told us the problem began over a week ago, and perhaps they were waiting for later in the season when there were fewer guests, because I'm sure they'd have to close both bathrooms to fix it.

SUMMARY: If you're young and looking to meet people and have a good time, look no further. This hostel is definitely above average in cleanliness and features and you will probably end up staying longer than planned.

My husband and I spent 10 days in one of the double rooms at Bada Bing and it was fantastic! The staff are friendly and so much fun. Special Shout out to Volkan who is stellar host - but the rest of the crew (Moustapha, etc) also went out of their to answer any question we had. The rooftop bar is convenient and cheap, wifi is fast, and the bathrooms are very clean. The hostel is in quiet street, but centrally located with 5 minute walks to the Spice market or Galata. If we go back to Istanbul, we will DEFINTELY stay with our Badabing family.

Great location, easy walking distance to the old town or a tram stop which will take you there in 2 mins. Rooms were clean and there was a massive locker under the bed for everything you could possibly bring. Air con in the rooms was amazing, and a must in Istanbul during the summer. Breakfast was included which was great. They try to supply a traditional Turkish breakfast but IMO more cereal and some toast would have been better!l Awesome rooftop terrace with cheap beer, great atmosphere at night and easy to meet other travelers. The owner Vulcan is there every night trying to start a poker game or taking people out to bars and clubs... Overall great hostel!

I just stayed at Bada Bing for a week with my friend and had a fantastic experience. The rooms are comfortable (although the beds are a little squeaky), and the staff is always on hand to go above and beyond to help you. Can (Jon?) especially was very helpful and friendly and gave great advice for what to do.

The hostel recommended an old, traditional Turkish bath house that they have a connection with and we had a great experience there. Also at night they play the football matches on the roof, which is great. Plenty of free tea, good internet, laundry, and comfy places to sit, as well as a buzz of activity always going in and out. I would recommend this hostel to anyone who wants to stay in a fun, central location in Istanbul, close to the tram, and meet a lot of friendly people. I would definitely return!

We stayed for 4 nights in a 10-bed dorm and it was really a nice stay. We didn't hang out in the hostel much, but staff was really friendly and helpful, hostel nice and clean, roof terrace very nice and location is great. Just few minutes away is Galata Bridge with so much nice stuff (fish sandwiches are the best!), and everything else is also close. WiFi was good, rooms with AC, showers clean and availabe almost at all times... really nice hostel!
