“Rain in Istanbul, try a Turkish Haman”
Review of Turkish Haman

A visit to Gedikpasa Hamani, a historical Turkish bath since 1475 is a wonderful way to spend some relaxing time in Istanbul. Rain and cold weather made outdoor sightseeing a challenge, so I booked into the haman, and was not disappointed. I had transportation to and from my hotel provided in the price. The services were very professional and the staff helpful. I can only compare it to the Gelert baths in Budapest, which were less professional, and the massage very light. I would say try the Turkish Haman for a real massage and a sense I had a refreshing experience. They also offer a honey massage which I would love to try!

This Haman is in the basement of the Sultanhan hotel. It is run by a Mustafa & Fatma (husband & wife). My wife & I had our time together. You go into a sauna for 10 minutes & then the steam room. Mustafa comes in & scrubs you w/ a rough cloth. My wife was at first taken aback but Fatma said "it's just my husband". If a woman is squemous about a man scrubbing her, then this is not the place for you. He then washes your hair & rinses you off. After you dry, Fatma then gives the best massage I have ever had but it is only 30-40 minutes. You then go back to the sauna for 10 minutes & shower & dress. The place is quiet & very clean. The cost was 80 euros for about 1 3/4 hrs.
