“Great Place to Stay”
Reviewed 16 December 2011

This was an excellent choice for our visit to Istanbul in November. We were very satisfied with the quality of the accommodations and with the cost.

The hotel is located conveniently close to the major attractions in the Sultanahmet area. It is about a five minute walk uphill from the hotel to the Blue Mosque and the Arasta Bazaar. There are many restaurants and stores within several blocks of the hotel including two convenience stores for buying food, drinks, and snacks. It is a short walk to trams. Also, if you stay more than a few days, the hotel will include pick up from the airport.

The hotel itself is fairly new and consequently boasts modern amenities: there is an elevator to all the floors; there is fast, wireless internet in the rooms; and there are many electrical outlets in each room (more than enough to power your computers and battery rechargers). There is also a computer in the basement lounge for guests to use who don’t bring their own computer. The rooms are not as small as typical in Europe. The bathrooms are modern and clean – the shower stalls are good sized and comfortable to use.

The breakfast is presented each morning in a basement lounge. Breakfast includes some hot foods like scrambled eggs and cigarette boreks. There are also many types of bread and rolls, at least three types of sliced luncheon meats, yoghurt, many types of vegetables and olives, and fruit salad. For drinks, there are tea, apple tea, rose hip tea, coffee, cocoa, orange juice, and water. The dining room is clean, comfortable, and lighted by ceiling windows. There are also additional bathrooms adjacent to the lounge.

The real strength of the hotel lies in the very friendly and helpful concierge. He was able to solve several thorny problems concerned with banking and currency exchange. His recommendations on touring were excellent; for example, he suggested a way to combine a Bosporus boat trip with other destinations. Of course, he also provided recommendations on restaurants.

We thought this hotel was great and have already booked return reservations for December.

Room Tip: There are family rooms / suites available.

I've been staying at Sultans Royal for a week with my boyfriend. We use to travel quite a lot, and we found this hotel to be one of most pleasent places we've ever been staying at.
Very well located, in a quiet small neighbourhood in Sultanahmet, close to the Blue Mosque.
The rooms are clean and cozy, and the service includes a tasty turkish-european breakfast and the price is absolutely convenient.
Also, one of the best things of staying at Sultans Royal is the very kind, friendly and professional staff.

We highly recommend this hotel!

The hotel is in a great location for many of the major sites and well priced.
It is quite new and the rooms were very clean. Shower was great with lots of hot water. The breakfast which is included was terrific. The front desk staff are very helpful and knowledgeable and very pleasant to deal with.
The only complaint we had was that the beds were very hard. We stayed for 4 nights and got used to the firmness, but they were somewhat uncomfortable at first.
That being said, we would still recommend this hotel.

Sultans Royal Hotel was perfect for us. We arrived at 11:30 pm and we were an hour late getting through customs however our driver with a nice clean van was waiting for us. The pick up shuttle was included in our price for the hotel ( we booked directly through the hotel) The staff was waiting for us when we arrived aprox 1 am. We were helped with our luggage and welcomed to a lovely clean room with slippers and complimentary snacks.. I mentioned I would like to purchase fruit in the a.m. and a delicious bowl of fruit was brought to my room. Our friends asked where to purchase beer and that was brought to there room. We are U.S. travelers so this was very impressive to us. In the morning we were treated to traditional Mediterranean breakfast buffet and one of the staff members sat with us to help us with our traveling plans. This was so helpful as even though we did our usual Rick Steve's research he could not predict the snags we encountered such as the Grand Bazaar and the Spice Bazaar closing for 2 of the days were there. We were able to adjust our plans and see all that we came to see and more.. If we needed a taxi one was called but if we could walk it we were told how to get there by foot a 5 to 10 minute walk through a charming neighborhood and we were there. The hotel is small but we enjoyed its charm and attention to detail and the professional knowledgeable staff that attended to our needs.

What a find! This small hotel was within 5-10 minutes walk of the main sites and the rooms were spotless with hot showers and heating and comfortable beds. Nothing was too much trouble for the staff and we were impressed by their local knowledge of the restaurants which were great. I have already recommended it to family and friends and look forward to another visit soon.

I was so please that I booked this hotel, it is in a perfect location for all the big sites and is walking distance from lots of restaurants and bars. The room was so amazingly clean, with an incredibly hot shower and heating which is perfect after a day of sight seeing in November when it was colder than England! The highlight was the friendliness of the staff who bent over backwards for us, answering every question no matter how small. I would thoroughly recommend this hotel.
