It's not the flashiest of places, but if you are after an authentic hamam experience this is a great place to go. The ladies didn't speak English but they welcome tourists, very reasonable at 40 Lira. It's basic but clean, they provide towels so you don't need to bring anything with you. I would definitely recommend this place.

This was my first hamam experience in Istanbul (had been to others in regional Turkey) and it was pretty good. I initially found the staff a little aloof but think this was mostly due to language barriers and perhaps them being a little jaded from dealing with unaware tourists? The English language fee list (40tl scrub etc) was provided at entry and agreement to the price was made clear at the onset (creating the impression that there had been problems in the past). That aside, the hamam is wonderfully old world. The small change cubicles are quaint (enclosed with a rest bed, clothes hooks etc) and the hamam itself is very warm/hot. The scrub is thorough-- took off layers of dead skin but it didn't feel harsh. The massage is very short. They will wash your hair (the way your mum did when you were a kid and she'd had enough of you!), then throw water over you from all angles -- which made me feel like I was in a trough... hilarious!. I really quite enjoyed all this. I did not feel rushed to leave or dress, and the treatment left me feeling refreshed. Compared to other hamams reviewed for Istanbul, this seems like standard service and good value. Its close to the buses/ferries (so easy to get to). The hamam has free lockers for your bag and also sells cool drinks. The towels and wrap etc were included in the price. I would recommend this hamam if you want to get the grit and grime of city travelling off without much fuss or too many people about.

This old hamam lies in the Asian side of Istanbul. The building from outside looks a little terrible. The stuff at the mens part (at least the time i was there) was not speaking English at all , but we manage to communicate with hands and grins. The entrance, which includes the lockers was not so great and the sandals that gives you are plastic and not wooden (takounya), like other baths. Despite that the main bath hall and sauna were very clean and the experience inside very good.

If you are looking for a movies's spa or to the Turkish bath of your dream, this won't work for you. But if you are seeking a old fashion hamam, kept really clean it worth a visit (not for fussies). Overall good experience and honest price: 20 liras for Hamami. Negative point: people don't speak english (they answer in Turkish+gestures). Pay attention just to one thing: They charged me 5 lira for "service" and no more explanations given because of language boundaries. I would have tipped the men who took care of me but after this forced service tax I was a little disappointed.

Don't expect luxury or an incredible massage and you won't be disappointed. Good people, cool architecture, no English. I left clean and relaxed.
