We stayed for four nights and had a very good experience. The location is great, 10min walk from the Aya Sophia, but the hotel can be tricky to find without a good map. Easier with a car as it's just within the walls from Kennedy Cd. Though local taxi drivers may want to charge you too much blaming congestion (not true), insist on a meter.

The staff is attentive and very helpful, sometimes even too helpful which can leave you a little less at ease. They care to make sure you've got all that you need and so still receive a very good review.

We had a standard room on the ground floor and it was smallish. Think London/New York room sizes with some space around the bed. But with a lot more "decor". It's faux ottoman and kinda fun, but drapes and fruit platters just get in the way when you have a small room.

Good Turkish breakfast (bread, cheeses, cold meats), ask the lovely chef for one of her omelets. Have some of her lovely homemade cake, too, or she'll frown :)

On the same street as the hotel there's a great local fish no-fuss restaurant, that will grill the mouth watering fresh catch of the day. Make sure to reserve.

Finally, they were very welcoming to us as a gay couple, so I'd definitely count this hotel as LGBT friendly.

We stayed at Sultan Tughra with some friends 5 nights in the middle of may. The hotel is perfect for a visit to Istanbul. Situated in the old town with walking distance to most of the places to visit. The rooms are not the biggest but with good beds and changing of towels and linen every day. And what a decoration! We even had mirror in the ceiling.... The staff is SO friendly and helpful. If we asked the receptionist/manager Mert for help he always said: "No problem...", so we named him " Mr. no problem".... And Azizeh, the cook, made the loveliest omelettes for breakfast. Together with the night receptionist (dont remember his name), these 3 made our stay just wonderful. We can recommend this hotel! Thank you!

We have just spent 6 days at The Sulten Tughra Hotel. Mert ( manager) and Azisa ( cook) are fantastic hosts. Nothing was too much trouble. Location was perfect and rooms are very comfortable. Recommend choosing a Deluxe room for a bit more space. We have stayed in many hotels throughout Europe and this was one of the best. Thoroughly recommend this hotel. Azisa's orange cake is to die for.

The perfect launch pad for my wife and I to explore all that this amazing city has to offer. The taxi driver had a little difficulty finding the place, tucked away in a little street within ten minutes walk from the Blue Mosque. But once we got there, the welcome and service was warm and professional. Although we arrived before the usual check-in time, we were welcomed with a cold drink and told immediately that we had been upgraded from the standard (basement) room to one on the ground floor. (This was a good thing, as I am sure we would have complained at being underground with a tiny window looking out at street level! Bookers beware - make sure you insist on not being in one of those rooms!)

Our room was clean, furnished in a very atmospheric style, but somewhat "compact" - we had to arrange a one-way system for moving around, as there was very little space between the bed and the walls, once you have a couple of suitcases on the floor. The Arabian Nights decor was fun, with plush red curtains and cushions, and a huge golden dish full of complimentary fruit and nuts.

We were concerned about the open windows when we entered the room, because they were very close to the street at the front of the hotel. The manager assured us there was no problem with security, nevertheless we did keep the windows shut and bolted the whole time we were there. Perhaps we were unnecessarily paranoid, because to be fair, everything did seem very safe. The air conditioning was adequate - could have been a little cooler maybe, but at least it was quiet.

Other facilities? The bed was a good size and very comfortable. There was a tiny little hanging space for clothes - not so much a cupboard as a curtained recess with strange red lighting, but we coped. Shower room with WC and basin - again, tiny but everything you need except perhaps a shelf to put your wash things on. Water nice and hot, if you allow a minute or two for it to warm up. Breakfast adequate though a bit limited in choice. We had to leave early on the last morning, but were still welcomed to use the breakfast room. They had ordered a taxi for us, which arrived on time, and we departed happy to have spent 3 nights in reasonable comfort.

In summary then, for a relatively inexpensive hotel, it had reasonable facilities, good atmosphere and service, good location, and therefore good value for money. If you want a bit more space, more luxury, posher surroundings, then go somewhere else, but I guess you will have to pay a lot more.

Room Tip: Make sure you don't get a basement room

My girlfried and I stayed at the Sultan Tughra hotel a few weeks and we had a great stay. Great location (less than 5 minutes walk from Sultanamet), wonderful service, friendly and attentive stuff and cozy/comfortable room.

Room Tip: Ask for the upper level rooms (we stayed in the ground level and would have preferred on upper level...

I had a backpacking trip with my spouse and we picked this hotel due to its prime location while offering the lowest rate.

I must admit that the location and the room that we were given (basement) was quite dodgy. It was hard for the taxi to find them. As for the room, it was so narrow that it perfectly fits a master bedroom with side table and that's it.

The only remarkable feature was the decoration and most of its reddish oriental stuff that they put across the lobby and inside the room. Breakfast was decent, worth for the price that we paid.

Credit shall be given to the crew who was friendly and accomodating at all times.

The Sultantughra hotel is an oasis of hospitality in an area of hard selling of city tours, food, kitsch and wonderful oriental things. In this area around the famous Sultanahmed mosque (also know as the Blue Mosque) locals are hustling tourists to part with their money. The hotel situated at this strategic location has certain advantages: It is close to the Sultanahmed tram station so one can easily get around Istanbul. Even closer are some the most famous sights of this amazing city with its abundance of historical and architectural landmarks. It is a 5-minute walk to Hagia Sophia, Topkapi Palace, Blue Mosque and the Hippodrome. In 15 minutes one can reach the Grand Bazaar and the Egyptian (Spice) Bazaar.

The rooms are decorated in a colorful and lavish fashion, which suits the location, as the hotel is an old Ottoman mansion. The rooms are small but cozy and have all the standard conveniences. The breakfast is typical with yoghurt, börek, breads, fruit, and cheeses. All is wonderfully fresh and tasty. The best things however, about this hotel beside its location are the friendly people that make one feel like visiting family (the part that one adores not the nasty relatives).
