We had booked the hotel called Turna Apart 2, but on arrival were instead re-directed here (sister hotel) because Turna was overbooked.

Top 3 pros: exceptionally clean, very good price, in Taksim area (easy access to city and direct bus to Airport)
Top 3 cons: Just under 20 mins walk to station or Airport bus stop, noise from outside (sounded like a noise from AC unit in premises downstairs), hard to find

Despite the negatives above, I really want to recommend this hotel for the excellent customer care we received from the manager who did his best to make our stay pleasant. Overall, if you don't mind walking and are not a light sleeper - this will be a good choice.

Room Tip: Avoid the rooms at the far end which get noise from AC unit in the premises downstairs

A friend and I stayed at this hostel in June 2013 mostly because of it's location in Beyoğlu, but close to the historic sites in Sultanahmet. The views from the lounge at the top are amazing. You can see Galata Tower, Aya Sofya and Sultanahmet, Yeni, Süleymaniye and Rüstem Paşa Mosques. After that, you can feel secure in skipping Galata Tower. The hostel had a lot of stairs, on top of İstanbul already being a hilly city. No elevator, so beware of that. The people who work there were a friendly, welcoming group who liked to arrange nights out to cafes or bars around the city. Other than that, this is a typical hostel. It's a little dirty. It's a little loud some nights. Bathrooms get crowded. All that jazz. But if you want to get away from the hawkers and the tour vans of Sultanahmet without getting to far into the boonies, this is a good and cheap comprise.

Room Tip: The private double/twin rooms are priced only a few lira more than two dorm beds. The fifth floor has the roomiest bathroom.

Stayed here in April for 2 nights. Bedroom was okay. Didn't have any natural light so was a bit stuffy. Bed was okay but sheets didn't fit properly so they slid all around.

Bathroom - shared with 2 other rooms and shower was pretty dirty, toilet light didn't work resulting in a messy floor and difficulty brushing your teeth!

I agree with noise comments - people coming and going at all hours of the night, but this is to be expected at a hostel.

Location was good. Easy walk down to Galata bridge and across the the city if your keen for a big walk, or the tram is easy to use.

Breakfast was provided in a great top floor room with great views, but provided only bread and spreads.

If you expect a hostel then you shouldn't be disappointed, they don't charge much and hostel reflects this.

Me and my friend stayed in Galata West for 1 night in May, It was quite easy to find as it is very close to Galata Tower and short 5 min walking distance from the Galta bridge whichj takes you to all main atraction places. Our room was clean and mattress was hard which made it nice and comfy. It was quite noisy as we had loud neighbours and soundproof was not very good, but as we spent just a little time in the room it did not bother us much. The terrace on the last floor was a nice touch where you could enjoy a drink or cup of tea and see Galata Tower and other parts of city. There is also a kitchen which is good, but we did not use it appart from making a cup of tea. And free Wifi connection is a plus. It was good overnight stay for good value as we paid £13.50 each.

Bedrooms were fine but bathrooms were a different story. Pretty dirty and toilet paper was not replenished. My main issue with this hostel was the noise...it travelled throughout the whole building anytime somebody opened a door, walked down the stairs etc. Very hard to get a decent nights sleep. I would have thought that with 24 hour reception some sort of control would have been in place. Breakfast a bit disappointing also. On the positive side - great location and loved the terrace. Place is cheap but experienced better.
