Pros:
Amazing helpful staff, very friendly. Best location in town, both for Aya Sofia and the tram stop. Average turkish breakfast. Great mood at common area on roof top.

Cons:
Not recommend this hostel for private rooms ensuite, very low cleanliness and stinky toilets. Separate building for the private rooms.

Bottom line: Great bet for dorms and meet backpackers. Not so much for private rooms, there are better budget hotels for that.

The hostel location is very nice in the old city center of Istanbul. the prices are also fair! the on-roof bar for the breakfast is a fantastic place and the interior design is beautiful. but the beds and the bathroom are not very high quality. the staff are friendly and kind.

Room Tip: the double private room is not recommended.

Stayed in old city esma hotel at the beginning of December, within walking distance of major tourist spots in Sultanahmet, free breakfast and wifi, definitely helped me keep within a budget and save more money for souvenirs and attractions. Really enjoyed my stay there, rooms and shared bathrooms were clean, staff were friendly and helpful. Only complaint was the creaky beds in the shared dorms, probably not for light sleepers.

My Girl freind and another traveller stayed in this hostel, It was a room for 4 and clean beds, the shared bathroom was clean, fanstastic place close to the blue mosque and other historic locations, close to public transport and bars and resturants. our short stay got even shorter with so much to do around. high fives to the stars/staff!!

Room Tip: Get the room close to the toilet access, Tea and breakfast is free :)

An absolutely fantastic stay thanks to the amazing staff, awesome group of travelers and a very comfortable hostel. The place was always clean, the breakfast is quite a spread and the rooftop terrace is the perfect place for a few beers to get to know everyone else. A very friendly vibe all round, fostered by the extremely helpful, honest staff. Felt more like a family home than a hostel. Beautiful views, excellent location right near Sultanahmet tram stop, can walk to the Blue Mosque, Hagia Sophia and the Grand Bazaar.
The only improvement could be more bathrooms, as there's sometimes a bit of a wait.
Old City Esma made my stay in Istanbul one that I'll never forget - I will definitely be back!

Room Tip: The third floor is below the terrace bar - could be a little noisy if everyone's up late listening to music.
