Reviewed 29 December 2013

me and my partner stayed there 2 nights. the best 2 things about this hotel are: 1. the view from the terrace and 2. interesting design of the hotel. that's it. when taxi driver brought us to the hotel, I told him: "you must be joking. it cannot be here!" but unfortunately for us, it was there. during the darkness you cannot see all the dirt and devastation which surrounds the hotel. when in the morning I opened the curtains and saw the view, I was nearly to cry. another thing which upset me is that our room wasn't cleaned at all. on the next morning when we checked out, I asked the receptionist why our room wasn't cleaned. and I had a ridiculous answer :" you had the key from the room with you." I worked in the hotels 4 years - starting from cleaner and finishing with reception and I know what kind of services must be done in the hotels. and it doesn't matter how many stars hotel is. there is a master key, which can open every single room in hotel and cleaners usually have them. the prices for the rooms are overated. the location is terrible and unsafe. if you never been in Istanbul before, it's very easy to be lost in the area, where hotel is. my advice: book a hotel in Sultanahmet area - prices are more or less the same, but hotels are much better - we saw a few of them when we looked for a hotel to move.

Dear Guest,
We really appreciated of your feedbacks giving a good idea to all other potential guests. But also as hotel management we thought we do have to give some explanations of your issues.
Our historical ottoman house is a secret gem of this special area, even if the houses are lapitated and damaged. And the hotel is located just 100 meters up hill the main street of Eminonu .This district had begun to built up on the 15th century. And this special house is one of the a few houses of the area as renovated and well designed . We never keep where we are located and how is this area named . Here is Suleimanie which has many historical attracts from the 14th and 15th century which were also built by architect Sinan. For sure many accommodated guests are already satisfied with this real Istanbul nicety . A real Ottoman House was built in 1850's . You still might compare us with Sultanahmet area's hotels which are built primarily at the last 20 years .

Many apologizes regarding the room cleaning misunderstanding. As I checked from the security camera records she already explained you the misunderstanding about room cleaning. Of course we have spare key and of course the room would have been cleaned up during the day if she would not understood that you asked not to get in the staff's your room .

Hopping to be able to compensate our deficiencies by you side at your next visiting to Istanbul and by our side as well, as the location is beyond the hotel services, beyond the hotel management’s authorithy .

Best Wishes& Happy New Year from HHK HOTEL

I stayed at HHK hotel for 3 nights in December. The hotel was a bit hard to find, located on a hill in a residential area west of the Grand Bazaar. But once you get over the initial search, the remaining experience is great. The hostess is really nice and helpful, the room and the hotel itself is antique and cultured but very clean, the view from the breakfast room is great, looking across the Golden Horn (not to mention the breakfast was included)! The room key is a huge piece of metal but you don't need to carry it around because you can always just leave it at the front desk when you leave the hotel and they will keep it for you until you return.

The view from my room is great also- one had a partial view of the Golden Horn, and the other two look out to the streets where local residents walk around. It definitely gives a feel of what it is like to live locally in Istanbul.

The big selling points of this hotel are it's views from the terrace (and those who have booked the sea facing rooms), and standard of accommodation.

It's actual location - in the run down part of the city- should not put you off if you want the 'real' Istanbul. Very close to a bustling market area stuffed with locals going about their everyday business. Can prove a little difficult to find and I would not recommend trying to find the hotel using public transport if you have lots of luggage. We had the free pick up service offered by the hotel as we stayed for 6 nights.

The hotel is close to all the main sites - get yourself an Istanbulkart (the Turkish equivalent of the London Oyster card) and use the tram to get around. Very easy and cheap.

We had a great time and would certainly stay at the hotel again.

One final 'warning'. The call to prayer starts very early in the morning - you do get used to it. This is all part of experiencing a completely different culture. Embrace it. A magical place.

Room Tip: Choose a sea facing room for excellent views.

This hotel gets well-deserved reviews for its opulent Ottoman style and it's friendly staff. The view of Cape Horn is amazing and from the terrace you get a Sultan's view of Istanbul. The rooms are recently renovated and the molding and intricate woodwork is painted in great detail.

The negative of this hotel is it's location - it is awkwardly situated and difficult to find. Most importantly, although it is close to the grand bazaar and the mosques, it is not pedestrian-friendly. The hotel is difficult to reach. With luggage, the walk from and to the metro can be strenuous. To reach the hotel you have to walk up a quite steep hill in an area littered with debris and stray cats. At night that hill seems and feels like it could be unsafe. There dirty alleys and blind spots with poor lighting on the street are unnerving late at night. A taxi is a possibility, but they will have difficulty finding the hotel as it has to be reached from behind.

In summary, we really liked this hotel once we got there, but it's inaccessible location made it inconvenient to explore the area sites. If you have a car and can find parking this might not be an issue, but if you are walking it is not convenient.

We had a stay of 3 days. We arrived at our hotel 2-3 hours earlier than our check-in time, pleasantly welcomed by staff with breakfast and in the mean time they readied our room.
Room and bathroom was big enough and very neat.
Location is the main highlight of the hotel, 15 min walking to ferry and tram station and 20 min to grand bazar. You can have an amazing view of golden horns and galata bridge from rooftop lounge.
I would most definitely recommend this hotel, if you don't mind a little bit ( 3 min ) of uphill climb.
