Our family had a lovely time at the Green House. I loved that it was just 5-10 min walk from where the Airport Bus drops you and it is accessible to all of the rest of Istanbul. For us knowing little about Istanbul and not having had much time to plan our (5 day) visit; it was a great 'ease-in' to istanbul.

The family room was just right. Breakfast was serviceable. Free wifi that worked great for me. For the price everything was great.

Talat I found to be professional and warm; and thankfully not pushy at all about selling any additional services like tours etc. Our daughters were doted on by staff and fellow guests which is always nice.

We had booked this accommodation at the last minute, but were not too worried as there were reasonably good reviews on tripadvisor. We arrived in Istanbul late at night and we decided to pay for airport transfers through hostel however it arrived 3 hours late, which was very disappointing. While we were eventually refunded the money, the management was not very helpful in resolving this issue. We had the family room (between 2 people) which had a double bed and a bunk bed. Though the room was generally clean, the shower was as small as a cupboard. The toilet was outside of the room and it is shared with the other rooms. It is kept well however given you can't flush toilet paper (you have to put it in a small bin) it smells as to be expected. There is no elevator, there was air con in our room and the wi-fi connection was good. After the issues with our arrival, we found the manager to be unpleasant. Though he tried to help when we asked we found interacting with him to be uncomfortable. Breakfast was basic, with bread (and condiments), cheese, cucumber, tomato and some cold meats. It is about a 15 minute walk to Taksim Square, where you can catch the funicular to Kabatas and then you have to catch the tram to the Old Town, where the main sites are.

Dear Guest,
We greatly appreciate you sharing your feedback on your stay at our hostel. We truly value each and every review we receive.
Currently all the private rooms in the hostel were being upgraded, there is a bathroom in all of the private rooms.
We have built a reputation for excellent service and hope you can give us the opportunity to restore your confidence in us.
Kind regards,
Talat

Some reasons why you should choose this place for your stay in Istanbul:

First. The host.
Talat seems to understand perfectly what his guests were looking for, whether sightseeing&relaxation or non-stop-adventure in Istanbul!
If you need some guidance in regards of sightseeing, travel tips ... - there's no better source of information than him because he knows the right people and places in the area. If there's something that can make your trip more enjoyable, he will do it!!!
Thanks for the recommendation going on the long Bosphorus Cruise (Eminönü-A. Kavagi-Eminönü for TL25). It was a relaxing trip close to the unique and wonderful shores of Istanbul :-)

Second. The property.
Greenhouse is close to Taksim, the heart of Istanbul. It is nice and immaculate. The lobby is tastefully decorated and provides a big television – a good place for hanging out.
There are a lot of different room options (family, double and dorms) including air conditioning (really cool - not just a fan ), shower, TV, hair dryer and mirror. The interior is simple and clean. And the beds are cosy and comfortable – for a good rest and best dreams!
Guests can also use the kitchen for cooking ;-) Also the lounge in the basement is nice and cosy – and a good place to meet other travellers, who were thoughtful, unpretentious and friendly people.
In summer it was very nice sitting outside on chairs - close to the entrance- having nice conversations, a cigarette and a good glass of Elma-çay ;-)

Third. Food and drinks
were tasty! I really enjoyed the included breakfast with bread, butter, jam, honey, cheese, fruit and/or vegetables and beverages such as tea, coffee and/or water. The drinks are free all day long – just another little thing to make a visitor happy; especially during a hot summer! The food is always fresh and delicious after another night out in Taksim.
George - the server is very knowledgeable and very friendly. One day he made a fantastic lunch, which is fortunate since this place is not far from other restaurants! Thanks a lot for the invitation :-)

And finally.
Will I come back? Absolutely YES!
During my stay in Istanbul I stopped in Greenhouse several times!
Especially my last stay was a very special one, and I really looking forward to my next visit :-) And I will bring JD with me ;-)

I stayed in the Green House for two nights in August 2012.
We arrived with the bus from southern Turkey in the middle of the night, yet Talat (owner) was awake to greet us with a hot cup of tea saying welcome in fluent English. The hostel is a very cosy and personal hostel. You get the feeling of being welcomed inside a friendly private residence so even in two days I got to know Talat.
You will be helped if you have any problems or difficulties concerning anything! I will definitely go to Green House Hostel when I come back to Istanbul - looking forward to it!

Thank you so much for the great hospitality and helpfulness!
