The Port hotel is good located - very near to Aksaray. The location is even perfect if you travel by car, because you can easy get on/off the highway and the main boulevard Adnan Menderes -direction to Turkoazoo and Forum Mall. It`s easy approachable for those who enjoy walking or use public transportation - there are 2 metro stations, tram station and Yenikapi ferry terminal in 5min.
The price is reasonable. The rooms are clean, but small, so are the bathrooms. The furniture is new (we were there, when part of it was delivered), but very simple- no chairs and table in the room, 3 persons could hardly fit in a triple room with 3 suitcases. The breakfast is normal - basic, but enough to open your eyes with a cup of coffee (though instant - there`s no espresso, no turkish) and a sandwich. Trust me, you don`t need that "hotel-breakfast", there are so many tempting places offering turkish delights, cakes, baklava and etc., around. The staff of the hotel is very friendly and helpful. Pay attention to the fact that there`s a minaret just on the back of the hotel - it didn`t bother me at all, but some people might not like that at 5 AM.
Now about the area...It`s a terrible place - narrow, dirty and noisy streets, crazy traffic, and many bars with questionable reputation around. It`s a trading quarter; people who drive old cars might like it, because of the auto-shops all around. It is not a suitable place for tourists, it could spoil your good impression on the city of Istanbul.
So I would not recommend this hotel to people who would like to enjoy their in Istanbul. Personally I would stay in a hotel in Asian side or near Taksim square next time I visit Istanbul.
